Bears Second Half Preview

After Sunday’s 24-18 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the Chicago Bears improved their record to 4-3, entering the bye week. Last season, the Bears also had a 4-3 record through the first seven games and finished with an 11-5 record and and a NFC North Division Championship.

The Bears appear to have more confidence entering the bye this year than last year. After two disappointing home losses to the Seattle Seahawks and Washington Redskins, the Bears were forced to make big adjustments in play calling. With an improved offense, the team got off to a great start after the bye. This season, the Bears are entering the bye with a two game winning streak.

However, last season the Bears had an easy month of November with games against the Bills, Vikings, and Dolphins. These three victories perhaps sparked their confidence and propelled them to a 7-2 record after the bye.

But the case will not be the same this year. The Bears will begin their second half with a Monday night game in Philadelphia. Then the Bears will return home to face the Detroit Lions and San Diego Chargers. The first three games will be crucial for the Bears if they hope to make the playoffs. If the Bears can escape those three games with two victories, they will have a shot to make the playoffs. After facing off against the Chargers, the Bears will enter perhaps the easiest part of the schedule. The Bears will travel to Oakland to face a team with a bad quarterback situation and banged up backfield. Then the Bears will play the Kansas City Chiefs in Chicago before traveling to Denver to face Tim Tebow and the Broncos. The final three games will start with the final home game of the season, against the Seahawks. The Bears finish the season on the road in Green Bay and Minnesota.

My prediction: 10-6
