He is someone a lot of us wanted last year, and would be good DE depth

Former Chiefs' DL Jaye Howard is visiting the Bears, per source.

— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) May 1, 2017

The Bears will host free agent DT Jaye Howard.
Howard has experience in a 3-4 system like Chicago's coming from Kansas City, and the Bears completely spurned defensive line in their 2017 draft class. Howard would compete with Mitch Unrein and Jonathan Bullard behind Akiem Hicks. May 1 - 4:52 PM

Now this is what I've been wanting/expecting to hear. Depth? This guy can start, and had the #2 run stuffing % in the NFL last year. Assuming healthy, he'd be a great addition for our DL as a 5tech pushing Unrein to a backup.

Would be a very good signing IMO. Low risk/high reward.

There are still some talented guys in FA available.

Dan Williams is another guy on the DL I would kick the tyres on.

If he's healthy, I'd like to see them sign him.

Dan Williams would be another low risk signing if he can keep his weight in check.

Way to go Pace....I heard on the radio that Pace has been the most active GM these last 2 offseasons. Trades, signings, visits....I like it.

On the other hand, Bears could be the Bulls & have GarPax sitting up in the suite doing nothing but sitting on their hands collecting their paychecks.

Keep it up Pace!

I like Williams, but he's more of a NT than a 5tech in a 3-4, imo. We already have that depth in Jenkins. To me, Howard is just what we need at 5tech. Our biggest hole on the DL is that RDE position in base sets. We'd have a formidable DL rotation.

Floyd - Howard - Goldman - Hicks - McPhee

Throw in Jenkins, Young, Bullard, and Unrein, and you have a real nice DL rotation, imo. It would be extra special if Robertson-Harris starts to develop.

He is more of an NT and I think it would be good to have another guy who can play that role. You could put Williams, Goldman and Hicks out there when your in your base D and say good luck to teams who want to run the ball.

I would be happy with either guy - I worry about howard's injury though.

I love some Roy Robertson-Harris! I hope we see some special things from this kid this year!

If we can have some luck on the health front, the signing of Jaye plus what we have could be really special. I fully expect the secondary to get torn up. But with a solid & young front 7 we are only a shutdown CB away from having a top 10 D.

Yeah, health is always a concern. However, in 8 games last year, Howard had the 2nd best run stopping % in the NFL last year. He plays the run extremely well for a 5 tech in the base set. I envision our run set or goalline to have Goldman slide over to RDE, Jenkins (6'3", 360 lbs) at NT, and Hicks at LDE. Now, try running on that! Although, a goaline defense of Williams - Goldman - Jenkins - Hicks would be sick.

Heck, sign em both!

I really wanted the Bears to get this guy in 2016, but that injury could be pretty bad. Hip flexor can be a lot of grades, I think, but the time he missed last year indicates a pretty serious injury.

I think we are going to have an insane competition at our DB spots. Bears have a ton of young promising talent that will only get better.

That one of the mysteries this year, imo. Players often make a jump their 2nd year. Who will that be for the Bears as they have quite a bunch from last years draft. If one or two guys make a 2nd year jump coupled with the vets we brought in, We could be tough in the backfield. And with Demps, we are a FS stepping up from being real good. All Fangio needs is the horses, man, and he'll put out a top D for the Bears.

Sign him.....cut Unrein...Vast improvement.

Do we even want to talk about Sheldon Richardson?!

Unlike some here, I'm always willing to talk me some Richardson. The Jets wanted to trade him during the draft. How about a swap of Fuller & Houston for Richardson & Pryor? :smug2:

There is not many scenarios, in which Howard wouldn't start. Urien isn't good enough to keep this guys production on the sidelines.
