lol at this idea that we should entertain Quinn because it‘s possible he could hire a good offensive coordinator because he hired Shanahan. Like Shanahan was toiling in the film room of the Redskins and Dan Quinn discovered him like a diamond in the rough. Do you understand the chances that Quinn would make such a great hire again? Do you understand how much of it is really just sort of luck? Who was the guru Quinn brought in to coach the Atlanta offense after Shanahan left? Was it McVay? I can’t remember. It’s laughable that Dan Quinn is this guru at finding offensive coordinators. Like he has a gift. And the Bears should entertain him as head coach because he hired Kyle Shanahan ten years ago or whenever it was. Jesus F’ing Christ,

I would think they should hire him based on who he plans to make OC now which they know and you dont so you are whining based on incomplete info.

The point about Shanny was he did not make. The dude was literally an OC under his daddy and then failed with the Browns. He needed Quinn and Atl to show he could succeed outside his Daddy's shadow.

There is no offensive coordinator that exists that we know for sure would be a success. So it doesn’t matter. And if this special coordinator exists then he should be a HC candidate anyway. Why would I need Quinn?

What name attached to Quinn as OC do you hear and think you must hire Quinn to get? You act as if there’s these guarantee no doubt names that exist as OC’s that will work.

And I know that you can just throw out some names and claim you think they’ll make a difference. But you don’t really know if they’d make a difference. They could be unsuccessful. It’s completely plausible. Nagy was supposed to be this offensive play calling guru as well.

He's responding to someone saying the HC needs to be offensive minded, but Buffalo has a defensive HC and has developed Allen.
And that is why they are losing their OC. Sometimes the Coordinator is better and the reason why the HC is successful. Examples Vic and Nagy or Shanahan and Quinn or Buddy Ryan and Ditka

Shanahan was a big name. He was the youngest position coach in football. And yeah, you can find stories about him and nepotism. They’re bound to exist with his name, but you’re largely exaggerating the extent to which that narrative surrounded him. Some beat writers wrote some articles. That’s about it. And he didnt ever really get fired in the sense you’re making it sound. His father was fired as HC and that means the whole staff was fired. and he more or less quit the Browns because of differences. But you’re pushing this bullshit narrative that he was surrounded by questions of nepotism and he was this failed fired OC and Quinn found him. That’s complete bullshit, He still had a great reputation and was this young up and comer everybody knew would be a head coach some day.

That was their name when he was there. I wanted to be accurate. He didn’t coach the Washington Football Team.

Im going to sort of rescind some of what I said earlier. It does appear Quinn is good at building relationships or whatever. Because he does have some decent coordinator hires. Sark and Shanahan are pretty good hires so maybe there is some validity to him being able to get guys, I would not hire him because of that. I want nothing to do with him. But I’ll give him credit for appearing to be decent at getting good coordinators.

Kyle Shanny looked like a nepotism hire before Quinn brought him to Atl. He got run out of town with his daddy in Wash and had a bottom tier O with the Browns. Quinn made Shanny by giving him a chance to work with elite talent.

Yall acting like guys like Daboll and Shanny had top offenses before McDermott and Quinn gave them a shot.
No we are just calling a spade a spade. Daboll and Shanny are both great OCs that previously worked for the Browns and had bad seasons. That just proves that you can have a great OC and no talent on the offense and the results will be a poor offense. Why do you say Daboll was a failed OC? Because he was a OC for 1 year with the Browns, 1 year with the Jets, and 1 year with the Dolphins? So in your view if you take over a bad team and only have 1 year to install your offense and identify your personals strengths and if you don't turn that unit around in the same year then, you are saying that person is a failure?

I never said we should hire Quinn as I dont know who he may bring as OC. Neither do you. I suggested you should perhaps stop prematurely ejaculating over this as you dont know what his staff looks like.

A guy can be a good OC candidate but still a bit green to be HC. Duh!

He was a big name because he shares a last name with his daddy. He actually was not all that successful prior to Atl when you look at actual results not his Daddy's name. Go look up his offensive rankings while OC in WFT and Browns. He had a bottom 10 offense like 4 out 5 years.

Quinn and Leslie Frazier signal, to me, a step backwards. It's going from Trestman to Fox. Eberflus seems like trying to find our own Brandon Staley.

Just because Nagy didn't work out doesn't mean you need to revert back to the defensive coach.
Is Staley even that good though?

Of course you phrase this in the most uncharitable way possible.

Everybody knew who Kyle Shanahan was because of his famous last name, but that wasn't the primary reason why he became a household name. The 2012 offense he designed around RGIII was revolutionary for its use of running a zone read scheme out of the pistol formation, which allowed the dual threat quarterback to flourish in a way the NFL had never seen before. That was a MASSIVE part of his rise in popularity.

To insinuate he was only hired because of his name is to deny the reality of what that 2012 season did for his reputation around the league, which is what propelled him into getting the job in Cleveland, and then eventually ATL where he was able to solidify himself as one of the bright young offensive minds of the league.

I already said he had a bottom 10 O for 4 out of 5 years. 2012 was the other year and I think what he is famous for is basically killing RGIII's career by watching him take hit after hit and doing nothing about.

Is one year of success out of 5 worthy of being an OC? Is burning out your franchise QB in like 2 years something to be admired?

Lol, ok. He started generating head coaching buzz immediately after that season, so I'm going to go with "no" on that one.

His offenses in Washington were 18th, 16th, 5th, and 9th in yards, and were 25th, 26th, 4th, 23rd in points. Half of those years were with Rex fucking Grossman and an old broken down Donavon McNabb as the starting quarterback.

And to answer your question, yes, I absolutely do think his one year of success was special enough to warrant consideration for other jobs. RGIII was never going to last in the NFL regardless of what coach he had. His body wasn't built for the NFL, and the guy never learned to slide correctly. Russell Wilson and Colin Kaepernick ran a lot of the same stuff RGIII was running and they came out of it okay. I think it's unfair to lay blame on his OC for a guy being injury prone, who by the way, still had a tough time staying healthy even after he left Washington.

I don’t find any of these guys much of an upgrade over Nagy. None of them have proven enough to me. Why bring in another average coach. Go spend the money and get it done.
Then the only option would be Sean Payton.

All the upgrade over Nagy candidates never were HCs. Just because they were good coordinators does not mean that they will be good head coaches. So there is a risk with everyone.

Time to make Payton an offer he can't refuse even if the Bears lose another draft pick.

Quinn is a defensive specialist but his defense sucks ass. He goes away from what is working constantly, his time management is trash, he sucks at challenges and he was carried by Kyle shanahann
So Nagy was Quinn 2.0 with Fangio being Shanahan 2.0?

We might have some of the biggest morons in the world on this message board, At least 5 times I read in this thread how the Bills #1 D got torched and could not stop the Chiefs.... yes they could not, but the reason for that is they lost their best playmaker for the year in CB Tredavious White..... he is as good as Ramsey .... a #1 all pro (not just pro bowler but an all pro) CB without whom the Bills D is not the same .... if you take Ramsey from the Rams you will see the effect on the rest of the D as you have to compensate for it.

Seriously .... people on this board have no clue when it comes to details
