Forgot tag is based on all LBs including 3-4 OLBs so makes more sense why Quan would be happy to see that amount.
Yeah but now roquan should take a lesser contract because of hotel maids lol lol

Their defense was shit last year. So probably not far. Vic's defenses in Denver were hardly impressive.
Broncos defense gave up the 3rd fewest points in the league last year. Idc what advanced metrics so, points are what matters and Vic has usually performed well preventing the other team from putting up points

Perfectly fair number for a tag. He gets good money but it’s not blow up your cap money like QB. I have zero problems with tagging him next year if that ends up being what happens.

Yeah if the Bears tag him, then they obviously have no intention of signing him long term and just want a couple productive years out of him while they find his replacement in the draft.

That and better to hold off a year for the comp formulas too since they will be big spenders next year.

Counterpoint could be a transition tag where the player can go negotiate with others and Bears could match or get a high pick. ?‍♂️

When you just look at stats like this and don't actually delve into the numbers behind it, you can be easily mislead. They also faced a below average slate of opposing offenses but could look good at times, so not quite shit as I said but not quite good. From Football Outsiders DVOA:

The Broncos defense ranked third in the NFL with just 322 points allowed in 2021, so at first glance it still looks like an elite unit. But there’s a major statistical distortion at work here. The Broncos fielded the fifth-slowest paced offense in the NFL, averaging 29.45 seconds per play. Their offense averaged 6.41 plays per drive (ninth most) and three minutes and eight seconds per drive (fourth longest), but ended up punting 40.4% of the time (eighth most often). As a result, Broncos opponents started their average drive on the 26.0- yard line, the second-worst field position in the NFL. And because their offense controlled the clock so deliberately, the Broncos only faced 162 total opponent possessions, the lowest figure in the NFL.

To summarize: the Broncos offense was very good at slowly dripping down the field without necessarily scoring, resulting in slow-paced games. Opponents that held leads over the Broncos never turned on the turbochargers because they had little to fear from the methodical Broncos offense (especially the pathetic Drew Lock-led late-season offense). Both factors suppressed yardage and scoring by Broncos opponents to a remarkable degree. The 2021 Broncos defense was actually a below-average, high-variance unit capable of slowing down (if not quite stopping) the Chiefs and Bengals on its best days but getting steamrolled by the Steelers, Eagles, or Raiders on its worst. Denver finished 20th in the league in both yards allowed per drive and defensive DVOA.

There’s talent scattered across the 2022 Broncos defense, but almost all of it comes with a disclaimer. Free-agent arrival Randy Gregory had the best season of his career for the Cowboys in 2021. That best season, however, consisted of six sacks in 12 games for a 29-year-old edge rusher whose career has been checkered by injuries, suspensions, and off-field concerns. Bradley Chubb, who looked like Miller’s heir apparent in 2018, recorded zero sacks in seven games last year, missing much of the season with a knee injury. Patrick Surtain II had some huge moments as a rookie (including two interceptions, one in the end zone and the other a tip-drill pick-six, in an upset of the Chargers) but remains a work in progress. D.J. Jones, another newcomer at defensive tackle, is a hefty run-stuffer who will ideally max out at about 30 snaps per game. Justin Simmons remains a top-tier starter, and fellow safety Kareem Jackson a very good one, but the Broncos lost nearly as much talent as they gained this offseason, including Harris and slot corner Bryce Callahan.

If he starts the season off strong then would expect a deal before season over so they can apply some of it to this years cap.
It makes absolutely no difference when/if a deal gets done in regard to the Bears cap, as any unused cap is credited to the next year anyway.

So Quan basically sat out long enough to make his point but returning in time to get ready for season. So alll just a negotiating ploy. Bears fans will go back to loving him now.
That point being?
