How would history have played out differently? Would we have won more in 2005? Won it all in 2006? Or would he need the time to sit and learn? I figure Rex still goes down in 2005. Replace Orton with Rodgers and does the offense produce more? Does that affect the defense any?

Would Lovie have kept winning? Won it all in 2010? 2011 even?

Would that have instantly made Angelo the greatest GM ever? Or did Rodgers NEED the GB culture to be a success?

My thought is that if Rodgers was in CHI and Cutler ended up in GB, Bears fan would hate Cutler's asshole persona and worship Rodgers' asshole persona as "badass" before loving Cutler for gifting us W's after a while like we used to love facing Majkowski's inept, bungling play at QB during the Ditka years.

From what I remember, the Packers coaching staff did a lot to fix Aaron’s mechanics during his early years in GB. He sat for some time behind Favre and learned from a great QB, under a once considered good coach. I don’t know if the Bears would have done much to help his development.

It’s a little easier to play this game with players who come right in and set the world on fire. While Aaron is great I actually think he landed in a great situation, developmentally.

And Mitch had one good drive that resulted in a missed field goal. Both teams lost.

Mitch has thrown for 6,004 yards, 34 TD's and 21 INTS.

Watson has thrown for 7,228 yards, 56 TD's and 18 INTS.

Not everything has to be about mitch.

All I said, was he shit his pants in the playoffs last year because dude said we'd have a superbowl had we drafted watson.

No, he would have shit himself in the playoffs last year, so we'd still lose.

If we are going to have meatball fantasies of a QB we could have had it should really be about Mahomes shouldn't it?

you fuckboys seriously need to take a break from football I think the fact we drafted mitch is mentally breaking some of you

If the Bears had drafted Elway or Brees, CCS would have been exploring alternatives because each struggled mightily for years before finding “it.” Brees was not an effective QB until his 4th season in the NFL and was regularly benched for Doug Flutie. Elway looked completely lost early in his NFL career. Either one of these guys would have killed to have a second season in the NFL like the one Mitch posted last year.

Who knows about Rodgers because he didn’t play right out of the gates for the Packers.

After the ‘83 draft, it looked like the Broncos had completely blown it by picking Elway. Marino hit the ground running and Elway had a rough start to say the least. Kelly was awesome but he played something like three years in the USFL before moving over to the NFL.

Mitch may end up a bust but he’s not one right now no matter how bad some want him to be.

It does crack me up reading the proclamations around here that already have Mitch’s whole career trajectory pegged.

Ok this hypo is silly both ways. Impossible to say we win Super Bowl and equally impossible to say he would shit the bed playing Eagles weak secondary and with our defense.

Think what is fair to say is that based on their actual play, Watson and Mahommes would increase Bear's chances as they are obviously playing better.

Why can't the Bears find a good QB? The answer is simple, they always pass on them. Drafted McMahon in 82 and all the greats came in 83. Passed on Rodgers (though I'm pretty sure they broke him down and built him back up from what I remember reading), passed on Brees in FA, passed on Watson/Mahomes. They've had plenty of chances.

Rodgers would have not had a hall of fame quarterback to learn behind or a system that made sense to grow or be successful in. His best year would have been something similar to last year for him.

You're going too far back man. All you have to do is say "what if the bears drafted deshaun watson" who is the most realistic player the bears could've and should've picked. Bears would have their first superbowl since 1985.

Interesting. Some here find the Watson/Mahomes talk tiring and some find speculating What If in 2005 is too far back.

This is a fun discussion of What If scenarios. If you don't want to play, then you could just close the thread and move on. Can you do that? Is it possible?

WHAT IF:

The Bears didn't even exist as an organization at all and all these games we've watched over the years were not real?!?

I liked and moved on down through but I had to come back up and reply here.

I like how you used historical evidence to break down why you think Rodgers would have been drastically different. I also learned a couple of things. Had no idea Kelly was in USFL. I was way too young so I didn't know anything about anything back then. Just a kid going "BEARS YAY BEARS"

Your last line may apply to some of Mitch's detractors but not quite all. I am not sure if you count me as one of them but I have lost faith in Mitch and believe it will end badly here for him (but not I suspect in the NFL overall). I do not have that pegged as a certainty but I lack so much faith that I have to admit if he DOES turn it around and play well here to justify him being objectively the answer at QB for the Bears, I will eat crow the rest of my days and happily so.

Brees in 06... oh man... hindsight is 20/20.

Maybe so, maybe not. Schemes and situations matter. Which is kind of the point of speculating here.

But GMs get paid to have their foresight as close to 20/20 as possible, so Brees in 06, Rodgers in 05, Watson/Mahomes ... Angelo and Pace are not off the hook simply because they could not have known. If GMs want job security, they need to develop a system that beats the house more times than not or at least accept their fate playing hands in the casino of NFL talent acquisition .
