Any of you see the Cubs going after Cole? Cole, Darvish, Hendricks, Lester, Quintana is a pretty solid 1-5.

If they go after/get Cole, I think they trade Quintana. They have 54 M in Yu, Hendricks, and Lester already. Cole would be another 30 M. That would be about 95 M in SP if they kept Q.

One person I'd like to see the Cubs target in FA is Tyler Clippard. He's done well out of the pen last year and is actually effective more against Lefties versus Righties.
Pomeranz / Smith / Harris / Hudson / Clippard / Kintzler / Petit / Martin
A lot of names worth a look out there this year

Trade Q for Sale, Boston agrees to cover the deferred money on his contract, saving the Cubs 50 M. Trade Bryant to SD for Urias and Patino.

Gives a line up of

Urias/Hoerner - 2B/SS - 0.25 M
Rizzo 1B - 14.5 M
Baez 3B - 9.0 M est
Schwarber LF - 6.0 M est
Contreras C - 1.5 M est
Adam Eaton RF - 12.0 M
Hoerner/Urias SS/2B - 0.25 M
Heyward CF - 21.0 M
64.5 M

Bench
Cartini C 0.75 M
Bote UI 1.0 M
Descalso UI 2.5 M
Kemp OF 0.25 M
Happ OF 0.75 M est
4.25 M 68.75 M total

Staff
Sale 20 M
Darvish 22 M
Hendricks 12 M
Lester 20 M
Chatwood 13 M
87 M 155.75 M total

Pen
Kimbrell 16.0 M
Kyle Ryan 1.25 M
Alzolay 0.25 M
Mills 0.5 M
Kintzler 6.5 M
Clippard 3.0 M
27.5 M 183.5 M total

Add in the 3 M to cover dropping Morrow and you've got 186.5 M with one slot left open on the staff.

133M before any opt is taken or Arb case finalized.

I don't see a splash move unless they shed contract.

Dellin Betances (32) to replace Strop. They already signed Kimbrel to replace Morrow. The rest should be internal.

SP I believe Theo will look towards value vs monster move. Yu is a ace. He finally made that step and the focus should be more towards Fielding a team behind him that gives him a better shot at winning his game vs getting another pitcher that is stuck in his shoes and the core issue ignored.

San Diego will not trade both Urias and Patino for Bryant. It is nice to dream and it would be great for the Cubs, but it will not happen.

You are a fool if you don't believe Bryant pulls back 2 prospect types.

Sale I don't agree with. They need to focus on strengthing the D and grinding out runs vs waiting forcthevHR.

Yes, Bryant could pull in two prospects, but both will not be as highly rated as Urias and Patino. The Cubs may get one, but will not get both. Also calling someone who disagrees with you a name just shows your lack of class. It is a good thing that the Cubs don't have you as GM. Nothing would get done because the other GM's would hang up on you.

I don't think they trade any of these: Bryant, Rizzo, Schwarber, Baez, Contreras. Heyward is not tradeable because of contract reasons. Hoerner will handle second base. That leaves Happ/Almora as the trade chips, what can be had for them is up for debate.

I can see Theo moving Bryant. This no extension shit and eventually having to deal with Boreass. I dont know if the Nationals are thinking they lost Harper for nothing, they lost him and dont have to pay 330 million dollars.

I still think they talk to KB first, Javy is probably back in Puerto Rico already and Theo said there will be no long rebuild here, so whoever says no to a fair offer will be traded for A, not taking fair value and B, sending a message to the rest.

My thought here is Washington might let him go trying to keep Rendon. This is just my idea of what a "perfect" offseason would look like.

Would Boston trade Sale for Q? I’m going to assume no

Boston is going to be looking to shed payroll in the upcoming season Trying to keep Betts after it. Sale is a tradeable piece and Q is at least an innings eater who comes at a much lesser price and is gone after this season.

I doubt it.

Boston can remove payroll by trading Betts and reloading their system. He is a top 5 player in baseball and is going to get a haul. There will be a war to get him.

Sale most likey rebounds. You never sell low.

He was worth his opt.
