To be fair, SF won their last 5 games in year one. They looked solid in year two before Jimmy G got hurt. So Lynch had them pointing up by the last month of year 1.
In year one they won their last 5 games with Jimmy G. In year 2 Jimmy G got hurt and it tanked their season. They still almost beat us as well.If memory serves me correct both Lynch and Shanahan took control over the perfect situation. The previous year they were 2-14, had the 3rd overall pick (which they messed up and took Solomon Thomas), had a lot of draft capital overall and I think over $100M in cap space. They were almost a blank slate, which most GMs/HCs don't get.
I'd add, for how great Lynch and Shanahan have been this year in their first two seasons they went 6-10 then 4-12 (actually regressed). It leaves me to wonder are they this amazing GM/HC combo or are they having a season where things are just working well?
Just imagine if they had a couple key injuries and went 5-11? Would Lynch and Shanahan get a 4th season or would they have been fired?
Anyway, I'm sure this question is to draw a reference to how Pace and Nagy are failing while Lynch and Shanahan have been great. Let's not forget that the Nagy/Pace combo are 20-12 in the first two years. If their first two years would have had the same success as Lynch/Shanahan, being 10-22, would you even give them a 3rd season? I'm thinking probably not. Just to remind you guys that Trestman went 13-19 in his only two seasons. No way you let 10-22 slide bye.
If Trestman was the OC, with Lovie as the HC still, maybe we could have competed.
But Lovie and Trestman sucked as head coaches. Lovie for never finding competent offensive minds to lead the offense. Trestman for losing the locker room and hiring Mel Tucker.
Trestman had the 2nd highest scoring offense in the league with the backup QB starting 5 games. That all happened with the 30th ranked defense, so Trestman was a gawd damn offensive genius! In year one they won their last 5 games with Jimmy G. I'm just playing devil's advocate here. It's easy to see success and assume it's the people behind it. Let's look at Brian Billick. He won a Superbowl, but yet is unemployed. a few years ago he would openly say his phone isn't ringing, so it's not like success = good coach.Last year they did have those injuries and went 4-12. You can't argue against their success this season with the schedule they played. Shanahan looks like a very good coach, Lynch, meh. I don't think he's anything special. Not to mention, Trestman/Emery were fired because the Bears were flat out embarassing. The inmates were running the asylum on that one. You had team leaders like Briggs that were absolute poison. You can look at how long John Fox got when the Bears knew they were going to be bad for reference. As terrible as they were, Fox still brought stability to the locker room. Can't compare Trestman/Emery to Shanny/Lynch, they are two incredibly different scenarios. Shanny never lost the locker room the way Trestman did.
Pace looks like a jackass though. He's had four top ten picks and continues to whiff on them while also trading away draft capital. It's a recipe for a disaster. Nagy, I'm not sure what he is. I think he's good as a coach/leader, but he's putting too much on his plate. Looks awfully stubborn and doesn't seem to scheme to fit his players. Sort of in the Mike Martz mold but not as much as a narcissist. I like Nagy, but I really wish he would relinquish play calling because I not really sure he's able to be a HC and OC.

It is not cherry picking because since they got Jommy G they started going up. Their downfall came when he got hurt.Trestman had the 2nd highest scoring offense in the league with the backup QB starting 5 games. That all happened with the 30th ranked defense, so Trestman was a gawd damn offensive genius!
It's fun to cherry pick stats. You can make anyone seem good or bad.
Since last century and the same C.E.O...Offensive coach- Trestman
The best offense this franchise had this century.
GM? Not in 35yrs
He attempted 8 passes this past week while his runningback went for 220+ and 4 TDs.It is not cherry picking because since they got Jommy G they started going up. Their downfall came when he got hurt.
He's been creating misery longer than that. He was director of finance from 1987-1993, where he was responsible for player contracts and business operations. 1993-1999, he was vice president of operations.Since last century and the same C.E.O...
Ted Phillips, making Bears' fans miserable since 1999...
