From everything I've read the Sox are going to make a decision between Andrew Vaughn the first baseman from Cal or CJ Abrams a HS shortstop. Vaughn is a slugger that hits for average and has a good eye. Abrams is supposed to be off the charts as an athlete. I hope they take Vaughn (unless somehow Rutschman falls). He could step in relatively soon as a DH and move to first when Abreu is done. Hopefully by that time Burger is healthy and ready to go because I think he projects as a DH too.

I want a player that will be able to contribute in 2020 or 2021 at the latest. I think Vaughn best fits that profile. Last year he played 54 games hit .402 and smacked 23 home runs. This year he has played 50 games and is hitting .387 with 15 HRs. In 2017 he hit .349 which was his worst batting average at Cal.

Do you want a hitter like Vaughn or a high upside middle infielder that is probably 3-5 years from the majors?

I heard Nick Hostetler on The Score yesterday and he sounded like a guy that absolutely loves Abrams or Witt. Witt has been tied to KC throughout the process so I certainly won’t be shocked if they pick Abrams.

Vaughn's obp is like .560, more walks than games played. His highlights are great also.

Yeah, sounds like Witt to KC is a done deal. Haven't seen much of Abrams.

Vaughn has a special bat. He should be able to help almost immediately. I hope they don’t over think this thing.

This kind of power and hits for average...

Abrams...

Abrams just swings to make contact with no real intent to control ball flight. His batting practice looks completely aimless other than to feel 100 vibrations in a couple minutes.

Vaughn has that pure stroke and intent

I understand the bats in the system and wanting to make-up Madrigal last year but this really shouldn't be complicated by Abrams. Anyone else seeing that in his batting practice? I point it out because it isn't even full speed...its batting practice and he appears to have no real bat control whatsoever. Dude is likely so fast his only goal is contact and chaos. 4-6 years away is right. jesus.

Lets pass on that.

I played tee ball for one year and my daddy played with me 10 times in the park as a child, plus physical education classes in elementary for 3 weeks once a year, and I have better bat control than that.

Vaughn is ideal in that spot.

A couple of places have recently changed their mock pick for the Sox to Abrams.

Huge dark horse, but is there any chance they select Shea Langeliers?

The MLB Network guys are saying he can hit in the big leagues right now.

Good pick. Vaughn is probably the best hitter in this draft.

Eric Byrnes said Vaughn is the best college hitter he’s ever seen. That’s high praise coming from an ex-major league player. Also, I hope Burger is able to overcome his injury because he and Vaughn could provide some major thump to the big league team.

Plus, Robert is starting to steamroll pitchers in AA. His all around game makes him another prospect I think will have a major positive impact on the south side.

Also Thompson. Dalquist is the only one left. Sox played it smart, drafting college seniors in rounds 5-10 (I think) offering them very small bonuses, and having lots to spend on high schoolers who dropped because of signability concerns.

Gotta sign Dalquist still to make it one helluva draft. Took a risk there...if money is his issue they should get him.

Once the pitching starting maturing this is a deep team everywhere with a strong farm. 2020's gonna be a fun decade by the look of it.
