I am about done with Firefox.

I can get into reasons, but basically it is about performance. Anyone have a reasonable browser that is pro privacy and runs good? I would love to hear about it.

What do you use on your desktop and why?

Also what do you use on mobile?

I am curious what other people use and why.

Prepare for a @Crystallas dissertation on web browsers.

TL;DR

Run some form of Linux and install some Linux browser because Linux can Linux ur Linux, WHILE you Linux ur Linux with all of ur Linux.

Chrome and Firefox are hogs... but I use Chrome.

First thing I thought when I saw this thread, lol.

To the original question, I mostly use Chrome. I use Google tools all day long - G Suite (gmail for business, calendar, hangouts, etc), Google Ads, Google Analytics, Merchant Center, Search Console, Optimize, etc. Most of that stuff feels like it works better in Chrome. Same thing with Facebook Ads. Also I use a few extensions that don't have a FF equivalent. And finally, I like the dev tools in Chrome better. I do use a wide variety of browsers, OS and devices for testing though. But I do all of that through a service called Browserstack.

I never really had many problems with Firefox either, but sounds like the OP might be a good candidate for Opera.

Try a combo of Opera as the browser and DuckDuckGo as your search engine/homepage. Might be the proper balance of performance and privacy you are looking for without ditching Windows altogether.

If you want your firefox extensions to transfer over, along with profiles and settings (there are pros with cleaning up and starting from scratch too), you can use Waterfox. If you like older Firefox that is updated with newer engine elements, Palemoon. If you want to switch to the other side of the rendering philosophy, Brave > Chrome, although they have added their own trackers too, just nowhere near as many as Chrome main or Safari.

I'm glad I have a reputation for knowing my shit. Because I do. YW

Oh, startpage > duckduckgo. And this is from a longtime DDG user, but DDG have moved to a tracker model themselves. Heck, anything seems to be better than Google lately. Was hungry two days ago, searched 'Taco Bell Sales' to see what new items and deals they have, got 3 pages of stock investor articles on Taco Bell(try it). Search most things, you get stores selling items with those names. Good engine, if you are shopping(from Amazon mainly, because a lot of better deals are omitted, pay to play SEO), bad if you are doing research.

I use duck duck as my search engine, but fire Fox has been disappointing lately. Basically since they did the overhaul and changed the way bookmarks were stored I've not enjoyed it as much.

What's happening now is it opens the window but sits idle for sometimes up to 30 seconds before it finally brings up the home screen (which isn't a web page) which I find very annoying.

It's still better than the old days I guess where you'd click the icon and go brew a pot of coffee before you could view the web, but I have a decent computer that should have zero lag when just loading up the start page for a basic browser.

Meh, I'd still prefer to have the least invasive option.

I realized a while ago that all browsers go through dev cycles where they run like shit periodically.

I run both firefox and chrome and basically alternate whenever one starts running like shit. And I use brave too but not for work stuff.
