Karlsson's win was a robbery of Weber, and it was a very close race in the votes. Karlsson had a strong second half this year with the Ottawa surge helping but his play in the first few months was notably poor by even Senator's fans.

It just seemed like they were completely ignoring the actual defensive aspects of the game for a bit. Not to take away from what Subban and Karlsson do, because a good offensive D-man is one of my favorite things to watch in hockey. I think they just fall back on point totals because it's not as easy to quantify someone who's excellent at playing defense.

Karlsson is in the same group of guys like Subban. Good offensive guys maybe 2 of the best on the offensive end but their defensive games leave a lot to be desired. Both could actually use a better defensive partner.

Again for me personaly Doughty and Weber are the only 2 guys that have the overall abilities that Duncs has. But that is going to change as a hell of a lot of blueliners are starting to get very strong and there are loads coming into the game now at an alarming pace. Hedman is getting up there as one of the leagues best also..he has really developed to his potential now.

Lidstrom has inspired a large group of Swedish blueliners and it should be no shock that some of the best blueliners in the league in a 5 years time will be Swedes if there isn't a massive group of good Swedish blueliners already. There are a lot.

Been able to get a good look at Hedman in this NY/TB series and a few of his one-man breakouts have just been pornographic. Real, real fun player to watch.

Some of the players that are coming up have this insane combination of speed and size that, should they put it all together, is going to make them a terrifying player to face for the next decade or so. Don't know about you guys, but the idea of 10-15 years of Seth Jones in the same division as the Hawks is not a pleasant thought.

Yankies are grooming good blueliners too which is about time.

Seth Jones is going to be a monster
Hanifin is going to be a dominant blueliner when he fully develops
Trouba is going to be solid
Braun going to be solid
Leddy keeps getting better
Krug keeps getting better
Gardiner although he is stuck on a shitty team

few more really solid american born blueline prospects and current nhl roster players.

Duncan Keith at a cap hit of roughly $5.2 million for the next 7 or 8 years could very well be the best deal in NHL history.

If he doesn't win the Norris this year then they might as well get rid of the fucking trophy.

He's not a finalist, I doubt he'll win it. And Doughty had a better year anyway

Oh holy hell I completely forgot that he wasn't even named. Seems rather stupid that he wasn't at least nominated, right?

They take two of the top three point leaders among NHL defensemen and nominate each of them. Just seems off to me.

The guy is ridiculous and is the modern day Lidstrom.

Absolutely. Really, nobody right now is even close to him. Between his overall game and his resume and pedigree? The cup wins, Norris trophies, a +- that is off the fucking charts, points production, shutdown ability, gold medals... All while playing MAJOR minutes. There's not another d-man in the NHL I would rather have.

I'm not sure.... but I do know he is a big Garth Brooks fan (not his new stuff, only his old stuff).

I can see how you would assume this though. Being from Alberta he does have a fucked up version of a southern accent.

I'll go check WikiPedia to check for sure.
