I am curious who has seen the new HBO series Vinyl? I thought it was amazing. I am a sucker for all HBO original programming so I was curious if others thought it was good as well.

I really thought Bobby Canavalle and Olivia Wilde played great characters and Ray Romono, Bo Deitle and the Diceman did a spectacular job for episode 1. In other things I had seen Dice in I was actually tired of his schtick as I thought it is really played out but thought he played an awesome part in episode 1. What did u guys think?

Mods please move to the bar I put in wrong sub forum..thanks!

Really? I definitely thought it was better than decent..what did you think about the Diceman? I thought his character was great! And led zeppelins manager Peter Grant, the actor played a great character and supposedly very accurately depicted him back in those days..

When u say unbelievable how do you mean? That building actually fell in 1973. Or did you mean it was unbelievably good?

Also I don't even typically like the music in the show but really liked it for its purpose in the story line. Especially the punk rock aspect of the dolls

I thought it was below average.
Overlong and boring.
My favorite scene was the discussion on record royalties about halfway through the pilot, but it felt like Scorsese making a parody of his own material. It felt Goodfellas at times, and the lighting was reminiscent of Casino at times. I felt like it was a hodgepodge of different, older ideas to make the arc of the show slowly move forward, but it felt like tires spinning in mud.
I'll watch Olivia Wilde even in the crappiest of roles, and she's sure had some (Tron, Cowboys and Aliens).

Scorsese directed the pilot, I expect much more from him.

It was good and I will continue to watch, I just had such high expectations.

Suggestion to future directors, dial back on the screaming, not talking about the singing, that's fine, I mean the actors. When everyone screams in every scene it becomes meaningless noise.

Don't know I seem to be in the minority here. Really thought episode 2 was good also. You guys still not digging it?

I liked the second episode better, which surprised me because I'm such a Scorsese fan. E2 was directed by Allen Coulter who's directed some great shows before.

Like I said after Ep1, I liked it and will keep watching. Seeing Ray Romano get punched, worth it.

From what I read the series hadn't been picked up when they created first episode so Scorsese had to develop all the characters and pack a lot of information in the first episode so it was kind of all over the place (I still loved it). Perhaps that's why you didn't like it? It apparently was a deviation from Scorsese's typical modus operandi.
