Joe is always the tinkerer.

This line up is very co-dependent on Heyward and Caratini having solid games.

Heyward in June: 123 wRC+
Caratini -100 (that is correct 0-4)
Bote 140

So It really feels like they are trying to get Victor's bat going again.

Now Cargo between Bryant and Baez is also interesting. Even a BB becomes impacting there.

The whole Rizzo thing has worked in the past. If they can get solid LH wRC+ lower then it is the best solution.

No, the bigger problem seems to be that more pitchers on this staff would rather not pitch with Willson behind the plate.

I wonder what the cost would be on him in terms of a trade but the Cubs could desperately use a guy like Alex Gordon (exp) or maybe if they wanted to try a little deeper and go after a Shin-Soo Choo but you'd need the Rangers to fall back a bit.

Couple other guys who could make sense are Adam Eaton (has a .345 OBP this year with a sub 10%K rate while having a BABIP 25 points below his career average) and Jarrod Dyson (has the CF flexibility and the speed element off the bench).

Really think the Cubs need a 2003 Kenny Lofton type rental/leadoff guy.

Might as well be Almora since apparently nobody wants to watch his excellent defense anymore.

Love to see Adbert have a strong, healthy end to the year and then see him compete for the #5 spot next year. If you can continue to see progression from Yu and Adbert is a solid #5, that's 20M in savings with not much change in production for next year.

The other thing to think about with Adbert is would you move him to the bullpen for a long-term role as a potential high value reliever to help protect his injuries ala what they did with Carl a few years back. No real way to know that Edwards would simply stop progressing as a reliever.

You think Almora is a legitimate CF for a contender?

He's at .8 fWAR through the Cubs 61 games so that would project to being a 2 fWAR player for the year. As a top 5 CF defender by almost any metric and a guy who hits in the bottom of the order, I don't really see the issue with Almora, he's done almost everything you thought he'd do for you in any realistic capacity.

He is a plus defender and can hit left handed pitching. Any contender would have him on the roster.
My reference is as a starter. He should be on the roster as a 4th OF

Your starting CF on playoff teams as of today's record

Dodgers - Verdugo
Brewers - Cain
Phillies - Herrera (Kingery with him suspended)
Braves - Acuna

Yankess - Gardner
Rays - Kiermaier
Twins - Buxton
Red Sox - Bradley Jr.
Astros - Springer

He's like 6th on that list most likely (Cain, Verdugo, Springer, Buxton, and Acuna ahead of him). Not sure that's a real complaint.

He'd definitely be an everyday starter with his defense as long as he didn't totally suckass offensively if he had a LFer and RFer who could hit somewhat consistently next to him..

Classic Javy to take two really tough pitches to get full and then swing through an out of the zone pitch to start the DP. Massive difference between 2 on and no out and no one and 2 out.

Then a weird double by Heyward (ground ball left of the 1B and right of the 2B) and then a great double by Caratini only nets one run instead of potentially two or three.

I don't mind him if they are stacking the line up heavy wRC+.

They really start to suffer when they start prioritizing D over O.

Just take his earlier AB. Every pitch was down a D away. Instead of letting the pitcher beat himself he played right into it and hit into a DP.

That is why you are a fool to think he is every day. He is a D sub that hits left well. Stop trying to make him into this star.

Guy must be allergic to walks. Pathetic.
