Sox making it a game now
Yep getting nervous now with it coming down to the pen again. In the 5th when they had 5 in already and bases loaded, no outs they could have put the game away there but a strikeout and double play squashed that. Hope they can get one or both back in the 8th or 9th.

2 horrible AB in the 8th. Since we went up 6-1; feels like our AB have been underwhelming

I would fire my manager on the spot for stealing down three in the ninth.

Fuck “avoiding the force out”.

How many times can you get the runner at second but not the batter? Once a month?

Yes and agreed. CSF I do enjoy your knowledge and opinions on the cubs. With Garcia how do you see this going in the next 3 weeks? Trade bait? Permanent stay at 2nd base? And where do
You see him in the lineup at on a somewhat consistent basis?

First of all. Ohhhhh yaaaaa

2nd. Too early and let's see how the league adjusts to him.

(Responding to own post)
They can push it to 8 with a win tomorrow.
2 positives that stood out to me tonight were: 1. the patience at the plate, taking walks and laying off close pitches that weren’t getting called for strikes. 2. Kimbrel hitting 97-98 consistently

What I took from this game?

After Rizzo the line up had 0 hits.

With the DH they could have used Caratini there to extend the line up.

Heyward I get being rusty. But he has a left on right advantage. Garcia same thing. He could have played 2B.

Joe could have gone

Schwarber LF
Baez SS
Bryant RF
Rizzo 1B
Contreras C
Caratini DH
Heyward CF
Bote 3B
Garcia 2B

Another thing that I'm not a fan of is Bryant in the OF. He is at a -UZR/150 @ both RF and LF with a +4.7 at 3B.

I get that they want to add power there but this is not the best way.

I've been looking at Meyers again. He is back loaded in contract. 20 M with 2.5 mil bonus each year 20-22. So there is much risk trading for him. His playing time has been cut. Basically his AB's are close to Bote's. His O excelled at 1B. IMO injuries have been a core problem and 1B is low impact.

Over all a bad idea but if you can move Chatwood it offsets a chunk of year 1 and getting him into a stable role might help keeping him healthier. That bit is a maybe.

Basically it would be more about keeping Bryant on 3B and not risking injury. I know this thought has been toyed with with Garcia at AAA. But Joe has not utilized it to date.

Garcia had the same left on right advantage as a DH as he would have had playing second. Why downgrade the defense? He is not the best option defensively so DH was the right choice.

As it was Russell made an error and naturally caught hell here, but Garcia made an error in his only start the day before. Russell is clearly the better option on D.

Getting Caratini’s bat in as DH is not s bad idea. Maybe that happens today.

But the real hole in the lineup right now is Bote. He is going through a stretch in which he cannot even put the ball in play.

Kimbrel looked like shit again, dorkchop.

Kimbrel hitting 97-98 was definitely a good sign.

I wouldn’t say he looked like shit. Not perfect but far from shit.

We want to add a bat comparable to Bote at $20 million per year?

To a team strapped so much for cash they could only address their glaring bullpen problem after Zobrist left?

Why is playing OF such an injury risk for Bryant?
