I kinda want to see Joe go with

Almora CF
Bryant 3B
Rizzo 1B
Baez SS
Contreras C
Schwarber LF
Russell 2B
Heyward RF

Think that they said Almora has hit .350 sense App 26 so they should ride that for now. Russell is holding his own now and should play every day

To be honest Q was on point tonight and it is kinda normal to see a outburst from a decent O that has been dominated.

Edwards is pretty much a one trick pony and after Q was changing speeds and pin pointing his fastball keeping them guessing seeing a dead red was a relief.

Edwards is more effective after Hendricks. 6 MPH jump after the bats have slowen down all game. It impacts the game.

So you can kinda blame Q for being that tough on them.

So you want a one trick pony to be our closer, who can only close after certain pitchers are throwing in front of him, ok, now I understand your argument.

Some day someone will step up to handle the 4 hole and let Javy cause so much angst on the basepads in the leadoff spot.
I understood the past arguments

Does not get on base enough...... done
Does not take walks........................ done
Strikes out too much....................... down
Pulls everything................................ done (leads majors in oppo hits)

Causes mayhem on base pads....... always
Magician around the bases............. of course
Fearless............................ always

I would rather have good OBA ahead of him so his high contact rate pays off

No, the 3 guys ahead of him take walks also. Jason puts the ball in play 70% of the time so he becomes a clean up hitter at the bottom of the line up.

Most of the Cub pitchers really don't suck hitting either and with Almora's high contact rate flipping the line up it can become problematic if they walk Jason and the pitcher bunts into scoring then Almora up in a hot streak and will put the ball in play with a runner at 2B.

Javy is the anthesis of what you want in a lead off hitter. He doesn't take walks and doesn't drive up pitch counts because of it. He has power. You want power behind guys who get on base or else he's hitting a bunch of solo home runs rather than scoring multiple runs. And he hits for average which in of itself isn't bad for a lead off hitter but as with hitting for power you want high average guys behind guys who get on base because that's how you score runs. Sure Javy is a decent runner but the cubs don't run anyways. They are 29th in the majors in stolen bases.

Sori was one of the worst lead off hitters ever. Same situation. Was a SB threat and the micro minded mentality of that time pushed him into the lead off.

Here is the thing: you can't steal first base. So speed in itself is pointless. That is why teams have adapted to OPA as the key stat when increasing PA's. That is why there is little arguement with Bryant hitting #2. He is getting on base 40% of the time.

You really have to gauge OBA first. That is the top priority when setting a line up.

Now if player A and B both have a .400 OBA then you look at other factors like speed and base running ability.

But it doesn't supersede OBA as suggested.
