Chatwood can't finish it. But not a bad outing for him.

Nice to see Chatwood making contributions this year. I have to admit, I never saw this coming.....I thought he was toast after what he showed last year.

He has done well, and it's great to see.

I saw on Twitter someone had a poll asking who has had the best bounce back season among Cubs.
Chatwood
Quintana
Bryant
Contreras
Almora

That's a long list. (And there was a sixth who I can't recall)

Q was a 5 WAR talent. 1.0 right now.
Almora has never been great. Pass.
Bryant is at 2.2 right now. Last year 2.3. That is impressive. His peak 7.8 WAR.
Contreras peak 2.5 WAR at 1.9. I don't think that he has had a break out year with that. So there is no comeback if you have never been there.
Chatwood IMO will never accumulate WAR in the pen.

So right now this is Just Bryant's award. Q is doing very good but Bryant is on a tear.

Again, it looks like the changes to the coaching staff were the biggest pickups of the off season. Maddon and the Front Office changed the atmosphere around the team in a really positive way. The entire team has made the bounce back award, IMHO.

330 million took a nice pitch away to left field. 4 run lead, could have let Chatwood try to finish it.

He was already over 60 pitches. He probably can't handle much more than that without getting stretched out again.

That is why I like him more as a starter. He seems to perform better and that 1 walk lessens in a 3+ stint vs a 1 inning. He is going to walk guys. You can expect 1-3 guys per 6 on avg.

Len and JD had the complete opposite take from you. They say having him only go one inning is what is allowing him to succeed. He got in trouble as a starter because he continuously allowed runners on and they eventually got to him. He has such good stuff that he can get away with it in shorter outings over long outings.
