Jahns notebook: Bears can’t wait to see Montgomery in camp, Trubisky ‘more than fine’ against Pagano’s defense
As Bears went their separate ways after coach Matt Nagy’s second offseason program concluded, they did so feeling great about their rookie class — specifically running back David Montgomery.
“David is just focused on his plays, the playbook and fitting in,” running backs coach Charles London said during OTAs. “But I can see over time, as his career goes on, that he takes over a leadership role. I can see that happening.”
Well, it might be happening already.
At the very least, Montgomery led the rookies, if not the entire team, in highlights made during the offseason program. It started during rookie minicamp. His pass catching skills excited his teammates and coaches.
Montgomery excelled in running routes and catching passes in shorts and his helmet during the offseason program. He looked like a problem for the Bears’ defense.
