Going there this winter break with some kids from school. What do you guys think are the must-do things in Vegas?

There's really only a handful of things to do: get drunk, get laid, gamble all your money away, blow all your money shopping, or go see a show. The first three are kind of synonymous regardless of where you go while your there (although I guess if you're into the club scene there's plenty of that going on), seeing shows is kind of a different story though; the resident musical acts vary quite a bit, and then there is burlesque, or "magicians," all that type of happy horse shit. You could always go outside the city limits and shoot some automatic weapons (Nevada is probably one of the easier places you'll ever get the chance to do that). Or you could do the old person thing and go check out the Hoover Dam, that's about a 30 mile cruise from downtown. Oh, and there are random rides and shit to go on.

Honestly I'm not too sure what a "must do" would be there, I have a buddy that has lived there full-time for 8 years and another that is a part-timer and we never really do the touristy kind of shit when I'm in town.

What do you like to do? That would help in telling you things to do.

I'm not a gambler, a strip club goer, or a heavy drinker. All I cared to do in Vegas was see a few shows and eat lots of food. If gambling's your thing, go do that, obviously, but don't bankrupt yourself...also obviously. If drinking's your thing...you're in a good place to do it. Clubs and stuff...also a good place for that. It's just depending on what you like. I recommend eating lots of food...that should be good regardless.

Unlike most of you that would go there for drugs, getting drunk and hookers I'm not into those things so Vegas has little attraction to me. Nothing sadder than walking through the hotel casino at 6:30am in the morning and seeing people gambling and knowing they have been there all night.

OTOH, there is great golf. The weather is wonderful in the winter, good food and the Liberace museum

Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area. For when the strip is too much and you need a little wilderness to get your perspective back. Only 17 miles away from all the action.

Las Vegas is a ridiculous place. As you fly in it's a blob in the middle of the desert and you wonder "why is it even there". Everything in town is staged and nothing is natural. What's sad is walking through the hotel at 7am and seeing people gambling. Makes you wonder if they are having fun or it's a sick addiction. The town is full of service workers, whores, junkies, cab drivers and other interesting characters. Lots of pawn shops so that you can cash in on your assets to feed your gambling jones at any hour of the day or night. There is really no other reason to be there except to feed and feed off the strip. All feels plastic to me.

Maybe you should sleep in when in Vegas. I get it, you're an early riser but in Vegas "6:30am in the morning" as you call it, is late night, not early morning.

We are all 22 YO

I am an active person. I definitely plan on spending a day at Red Rock. I like to drink in a bar environment, not really the frat/house party type of guy. I plan on going to a couple shows. Getting a hooker sounds somewhat fun in theory but I don't see myself ever being able to go through with something like that. Just knowing how many other dudes have been with her would creep me out, not to mention paying for sex seems sad IMO. Idk never been there, so just curious what others had to say. Most other cities we brought up as options for the trip were turned down due to weather, LV seemed like a good choice for a 5 day trip

I'm sure I'll drop some bets on the NFL, other sporting events but probably won't be spending a whole lot at the casino

ok, if you are going to bet on the games, do so the day before. The books are packed out early for football.
The best show from Cirque is Mystery at TI. If you go, plan on getting there at least 20 minutes before curtain.

If you are going to check out the Gold and Silver shop, go before breakfast. There are long, long lines and the guys are rarely there.

If you are going to rent a car do it at the airport. It's like 50-100% more expensive elsewhere.

You live in a world of stereotypes, old man.

Not stereotype but empirical experience

Go to Vegas, turn in at 9PM. Wake up at 5AM and head down to the Casino in your bathrobe at 6:30AM, see disturbing shit. Sounds right.

My advice would be to push yourself and stay up until 2AM, visit the casino at midnight, much more fun and interesting and less depressing at peak hours. They claim 24/7, but not really.

It's like going to Disney World at 3AM and ripping it for not being open. "Disney World is so dull.... at 3AM".

Yeah, but you can get addicts, drugs, booze and hookers anywhere.

And really, all I remember noticing at 6:30am was a bunch of old folks, foreigners and early risers like me who enjoy things on the quiet side.

3am-5am? Now that's a different story.

Lot's of people on the slots at 6:30am

Listen, I have been to Vegas many times (on business). I get it why people like it and there are some good things like food and shows.. But it's one of the most artificial places on earth and phoney as hell. Just look out the airplane window as you fly in and realize there is no godly reason for this place to exist in the middle of nowhere
