Ok random question, what movies do you watch at a certain holiday that have zero relationship with said holiday?

This could be it's own thread I suppose, but I think here works for now.

For me:
Thanksgiving -Cool Hand Luke

We used to invite a buddy of my dad's over for Thanksgiving dinner as he didn't have family in town and that was always his one request, to watch Cool Hand Luke. So we'd rent it from Blockbuster each year and eventually it got bought and it's still a thing at my house.

If I have the time, I like the mad max marathon on new years day. Over the past few years I eliminated Thunderdome and replaced it with Fury road... one of my all time favorites.

1) Christmas Story
2) Wonderful Life
3) Rudolf
4) Charlie Brown Christmas
5) Frosty the Snowman
6) Miracle on 34th street

Anything with Will Ferrel is trash.

What is and isn't a Christmas movie is obviously a point of contention...

If I were to be respectively inclusive, there's no question the best film is:

1. It's a Wonderful Life

The main plot, present, beginning and end of the film is during Christmas. And it's one of the best films of any type.

Of films I'm familiar with...

Miracle on 34th Street -- some great scenes, like the lovers' quarrel on 'getting ahead'.
A Christmas Story (1983)
How the Grinch Stole Christmas (1967)
Scrooged (1988)
The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993)
Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer (1964)
A Charlie Brown Christmas (1965)
The Santa Clause (1994)
The Family Stone
Elf (2003)
A Christmas Carol (1951)

If I were to be more inclusive...

1. Edward Scissorhands (1990) -- I would consider this the 2nd best film, but I don't think it's a Christmas film.
2. Die Hard (1988)
4. Trading Places (1983)

You'll notice that I didn't quote you, and that our posts were 4 minutes apart. Meaning: I did not see your post while I was typing up mine. It was a general comment, and not directed towards you. Upon further review of this thread, I will direct my post at @nvanprooyen.

The usual for us weirdos:
Die Hard
Lethal Weapon
Trading Places
The Shining
Gremlins

..and to round it off I always have to start off the holiday season with the MST3K classic: "Let's have a Patrick Swayze Christmas."

It never occured to me that you could call the shining a christmas movie, but it sure as hell fits.
