You guys ever watch Breaking the Waves by Lars Von Trier?
Man what a movie! Really makes you think. I'm not a fan of all his movies as some are way too over the top, but this one is a real piece of art. 10/10

1917. It's one of those films that is technically flawless and holds your attention and is a good story. In this case a story about the bravery and heroism of men in war. But ultimately the film maker didn't have anything all that meaningful to say. The message was sort of "British good/Germans bad/war hell".

To me the lesson of WWI is how the international working class of different European countries were manipulated into slaughtering each other on behalf of the aristocracy. I know not everyone sees it that way and that's okay with me. But a war movie should at least give you something to think about besides whether it kept you on the edge of your seat.

I also found it weird that the film did keep showing the black soldiers who fought for England in WWI but they never had any lines. It felt like tokenism.

Anyway. I'd give it 3/5.

You ever read max hastings? His book ‘catastrophe: 1914’ really lays bare the cynical political planning/engineering and ultimate bungling on all sides that led to ww1

Black widow?

I read the dune books years ago. I feel like that one probably would have been better as a show

venom 2 should be dope I liked the first one

prob with dune tho is the tech. it works in the books but when you have to show it on a screen, its kinda Special person and looks kinda dumb. at least thats what I thought last time i saw something that tried to adapt them. tho that was years ago

I’m not an Adam Sandler fan at all but I have to say Uncut Gems was great. IMO a top 10 movie of 2019. Sandler was fantastic( something I never thought I’d say). I loved the movie.

sandler can act when he actually tries

makes his shit movies look even worse imo

Ford v Ferrari.
Everything about the history of that time hit true. Engineering of making power to have speed and then control it.
Great movie. Will watch again.
If you're not a car guy probably boring for you.

Some stuff I saw this past Weekend:

Sonic...not very good but as someone that grew up playing the games I found it to be enjoyable. Surprisingly it has a few heartfelt moments. It's definitely got a vintage 90s Jim Carrey performance. Good movie to takes kids to or if you were a fan of the games. If you had no connection to Sonic then you'll probably hate the movie

Fantasy Island...just dull and the different tones of the movie just didn't work for me. They tried drama/horror/comedy and I just wasn't feeling it. The horror aspects just didn't work for me. I also didn't like how some of these characters felt like they were pulled straight out of a cartoon(if you've seen the movie you'll know exactly who I'm talking about). I couldn't get into Michael Pena as Mr Roarke either but I've never thought of him as a strong actor.

I don't think Fantasy Island is as bad as the reviews suggest. It's definitely not a good movie but I would definitely say I thought this was better than Truth or Dare(which has a higher RT and Metacritic score).

I just watched Joker last night with my wife. If Joaquin Phoenix does not win best actor for this roll then I will positively know the Oscars are rigged.

Happy that Parasite won best picture. Well deserving. It’s also fun seeing the racists get worked up about it

and wouldn’t you know it, the stable racist genius decided to talk shit about it at his rally.

Wife and I watched Parasite last night. It is NOT the best picture this year regardless of how the snooty Oscar judges voted.

Ford vs Ferrari, Hollywood, and the Joker were all better movies without a doubt

The Lighthouse.
4/10, and that's for the cinematography.
Dafoe is the Sea Captain from the Simpsons.

It could have really been something, but it went off the rails and became impossible to follow as to what was real and not, and a "how the fuck did that happen?" ending.

I saw it and liked it, but didn't think it was the best movie either. However, my choice and preference in movies usually doesn't win Oscars.

Uncut Gems is awful. I know it is getting great reviews but it might be the most obnoxious movie I’ve ever watched. Sandler’s character is an unrelentingly horrible person and there is no arc to his performance.
The movie has a constant hysterical pitch and there are several scenes where all of the actors are yelling. Plus, the Safdie brothers have the technical prowess of an 8th grader shooting video on an iPhone. Their movies look awful. They are the most over rated filmmakers in the industry.

Call Of The Wild was really nice. Yes the dog was CGI, but it was good to see a movie with a simple premise without all the dudebro-ing crap. Always a pleasure to see Harrison Ford on screen.
