Lets say they sent up a time capsule the decade you were born to orbit earth- for future generations or aliens to find. What are you putting in there?

70's for me.
An 8 track player with Black sabbath's paranoid and Queens News of the world, and BeeGees staying alive
A big, top loading vhs with a copy of "rocky" and a few episodes of sanford and son.
Luke skywalker, Han Solo, and Darth Vader action figures
A can of TAB cola.
A giant gold medallion on a gold chain and a velour v neck shirt.
A "pong" game console
A CB radio
A pet rock
All of it sitting on a dark brown shag carpet.

I only know Genesis because it was the first porn mag I saw, when I was like 8 and my brother and I were snooping around a construction site and found a stack of them by a bulldozer lol

Ha. I remember being a kid and randomly finding porn mags all over the place.

That is an amazing phenomenon- My porn stash was made up of found mags. Everyone I knew with a porn stash got them the same way.
However, I have never known anyone to callously discard porn.
It is almost a miracle- I think porn mags used to spontaneously appear in places only kids could see.

Like? No.
But they are representative of the decade.
Nobody has ever liked shag carpet. Not even it’s inventor.

Here's the real question. If you were an alien and some race sent you a bunch of shit... would you more likely blow up their planet after hearing the 99.9% of Disco that was shoved into all the things (granting that maybe 0.1% is actually timeless quality music in its proper setting) or give them a discography of Taylor Swift?

I was also born in the 70s, I think I would give them Richard Pryor works, just so they could avoid the popular comedy shitfest that relied on the same two Billy Carter and Richard Nixon jokes.

Mine are in a box in the basement. Wife knows about it and I told her the boys will "find" it when they are 16. Probably about 30 Playboys. Brooke Richards and Jodi Ann Patterson. Those were the days.

- Game boy
- PS1/PS2 (including all Grand Theft Auto games, Ghost Recon, Madden, NCAA Football, SOCOM)
- Phone book
- VHS Tapes
- Baseball cards/Sports Illustrated
- MSN/AOL messenger (idk how you put this in a time capsule)
- Tapping a card on my bike so it made that stupid sound
- Candy cigs and Surge
- Those red Pizza hut cups
- Overhead Projectors that teachers could write on and wipe off

Edit: My dad didn't have dirty mags, but a very poorly hidden folder on his computer labeled "Dad's pics" with hundred of nudes lmao. #boomerchit

Pryor was awesome. My first exposure to him was when I rented "silver streak".

Although... I think if I had to choose my favorite bit of comedy from the 70's, I would have to go with blazing saddles. First saw it at about 10 or 11 when my brother rented it at the video store.
Musta watched it a hundred times, and it was the gift that kept on giving.
As I grew older, I would learn a thing here or there in real life that would clarify a joke or gag in that movie and make me laugh out loud.

Within our posts is a good point about the 70s and comedy; This is where we see a hand-off between the old and new, the old slapstick and the swansong that was Blazing Saddles to the new era in *POPULAR* culture. Carlin and Pryor. People still enjoyed their Stooges and slapstick. Kids still watched their Cheech and Chongs, but if the 50s and 60s put a dent in popular culture with shocking music, the 70s did the same with comedy.

They did.
Blazing saddles was always the most intriguing to me as far as pushing limits.
Written by who it was written by, the subject matter, the language, the stereotyping- I cant imagine that movie being made as it was 5 years before or 5 years after that.

The 70's early 80's comedy was pretty damn awesome.
Foxx, Pryor, Young Murphy, Carlin... hell, even Young Cosby and young Williams were great.

Hell, I even dug Kinison but could do without the yelling gimmick. Wild thing was one of my favorite videos on MTV as a kid reaching puberty. Jessica Hahn... aww yeah.
