If the Cubs could trade Samardzija and get a good package back. Plus, sign Ubaldo Jimenez for a little more and lose 2nd round draft pick. I would do that. Pretend the players you get back for Samardzija are one you drafted in 2nd round and way more proven.

Wrong. Cubs didn't want to do 4-year opt out and NTC, so they really had chance. If they would have, I could see them upping their offer. I don't get the NTC with a guy who never pitched in the majors before. I would have never done that.

Cubs offer was 6 years at 120 million, plus 20 million posting fee. Not a bad offer, though.
