To be fair to him, he claims he used a VPN, which I’m sure he didn’t because there’s no way they could have gotten around his VPN to his real IP address that quickly.
If you're using a VPN (again not like a fucking moron), they have no way to get your real IP off the traffic.
All they know is traffic from the VPN server is doing something they don't like.
They send letters to the VPN saying "You have a user pirating Mandalorian."
The VPN says "Oh that's awful, give us their name and address so we can notify them to stop."
The copyright owner says "I don't know their name or address, I only know they are using your VPN."
The VPN says "Oh that's awful, my business model is that I sell internet privacy so I do not log my users activity."
The copyright owner says "Well I need you identify this user."
The VPN says "I can't do that, but if you know who they are I can terminate their membership."
The copyright owner says "I don't know who they are."
The VPN says "Neither do I... that's my fucking business."
And on and on it goes.
