He's not starting for a very good reason.....he threw roughly 3-4 balls that should've or could've been picked in relief of Drew last week. He got lucky but Payton saw all he needed to see. As for the Bears, we've seen enough of that shit already to last a lifetime.

As a one year stop gap, Winston is probably as good a choice as you are going to find unless Fitzpatrick is available. He obviously has his warts with the TOs but it is not like starting caliber QBs just fall from the sky. Signing him doesn't preclude you from drafting a potential first round QB. Let Winston and Foles (injury prone) battle it out for the starting QB so that a draft pick only has to play when he is absolutely ready.

This would be a stupid move

Bears have little wiggle room with the cap next year. In fact, a guy like Akiem Hicks is going to become a cap casualty.

Winston is affordable, cheap cap hit. Potential big bang for buck signing.

They already have a QB they are paying a non-rookie deal to in 2021. The little money they have needs to be spent very specifically on OL, defensive depth and WR. They gotta draft a QB.

What kind of QB can excel in this system?

Kansas City got a boost from a QB that could make all the throws and stretch the field every direction.

That's what Winston gives you, is a Cutler type ability to at least see your plays in a best light when he does the right thing.

He has velocity and accuracy.
Better than what we have right now.

I haven't seen N.O. really commit to Hill.

Saints signed Hill to a 2 year 21 million extension this past offseason. Sean Payton must have no homo love for the kid

Im kinda still interested in Alex Smith as a bridge. Wont Washington be drafting a new QB? We will too but ours wont be as highly drafted. Maybe Alex would consider a situation like that. Id be happy for a smart QB who knows the system and doesnt turn the ball over.. can just get it where it needs to go- spreading it around. I still think Foles would be ok for next year if we had an offensive line/ some running game.. but whatever. Alex doesnt necessarily = Foles.
