Well un-tell him.

How are the Bears promising a starting spot then saying it'll be a QB competition in camp? It's one or the other bros. Pick one.
Promised him a starter spot before Fields was drafted. Now a competition after Fields was drafted.

A lot of this is also coming from the media purposely reinterpreting what was actually asked and answered. The actual question was asking him about his mindset and if had changed after they drafted Fields. His answer was basically, "No, my mindset didn't change". He went on to say that he knew the deal regardless of if a qb was drafted and that he signed a 1 year deal to be the starter - that was the mindset pre-draft results and his mindset hasn't changed. I don't think he said, at any point of that press conference, that the Bears have promised him anything to start the season. Sure, there is some innuendo about it and obviously he is taking reps with the 1's. But, I don't believe anyone has flat out said that Dalton is starting week 1 regardless of how he or Fields plays in training camp and the preseason.

It's a slow time in the NFL offseason, so the media folks are taking a lot of liberties with what is actually being said to drive up interest and clicks on their stories from a fanbase that is hungry for any qb talk.

So they promised him a starting spot to lure him into signing with the Bears, then went back on their promise after they realized they could nab a QB in the draft.

This is why promises should always be in the contract

well maybe if Dalton bootstraps hard enough he can win the starting spot instead of football socialism.

I don’t know if promise is the right word to use. They “told” Dalton he would be the starter. It was only Dalton or Foles at that point. No one knew the Bears would get a shot at a top 4 QB.

The guy who shows the most will start. They both know that. They’re going to start whoever is the better player by Week 1. By the way, there’s a chance that’s not Justin Fields just yet.

no

thats not what the article says at all

all is says is that Dalton signed here to start and that mindset hasn't changed. says nothing about what the bears have told him or promised him

Never trust anything Florio's site says......its all for show and clicks

Dalton may well start week one, but Florio is generally full of shit and is just trying to market.

I say it's Dalton's job to lose... but it's really Fields job to win, or it should be.

While it is unlikely that Fields will I think grasp enough of what he needs to do on the offense, I do feel if both he and Dalton struggles, Dalton gets the job, because he will be more use to the speed of the NFL and they can dumb down the playbook while not having a QB adjust to the speed of the game in front of him on the fly. The pros of this, Fields gets more time to not only work with the offense, but more of the bench WR's in learning. It will give him a player he is more comfortable with, and teams have put that guy out there on the field. So if there are Ridley fans still out there, this maybe his best chance to stay on the team, unless Fields likes someone else better.

If Riley Ridley‘s NFL career can be extended it will all be worth it.
