Isn't it about time for one of the media outlets or podcasts to share a bit more about the other new players on the team? I was really disappointed by the Rookie minicamp coverage pulling a "95% Fields content, 4% anyone else, 1% Dazz got hurt."
I mean I get it; the new QB that's a big thing, but I want to have some of these other players on my radar before their dreams are over.
Pre-draft rankings and scout buzz are certainly one thing, but how do these dudes look now on a field? We've celebrated Pace's UDFAs in the past, who's the next Big Roy (Robertson-Harris)?

If you've seen some info on some of the other gents, I'd love folks to share it. I want to hear more about Marable's speed, Snowden's athleticism or if Caleb Johnson is gonna steal Iggy's roster spot.

Anywho, thanks for reading said rant.

On Hoge and (not) Jahns last podcast Jahns fill-in seemed to indicate that Jenkins liked to goof around. It was mentioned in regards to the difference in Fields attitude, of course, and mentioned in passing. Still, it wasn't something I was particularly thrilled to hear.

It is OK to have fun playing football. His college tape is that of somebody who is a total madman, I don't think you have to worry about Teven Jenkins being soft.

Oh, his tape last year was like o-line porn. But mix that little comment with some of his coaches comments about, and I paraphrase, how they had to learn to challenge Jenkins to get that killer mentality to come out. I'm not necessarily worried about Jenkins, I'm worried this coaching staff isn't going to figure out how to coax that devil out.

Castillo has a pretty damn good track record. Is there a reason you don’t think he can teach and motivate Jenkins?

I mean, so did Harry Hiestand. Actually, he was and still is widely considered one of the best o-line coaches. Doesn't necessarily mean crap, and sure as heck doesn't mean that their personalities will gel. Nothing Pace and Nagy have accomplished in regards to o-line merit them getting even a modicum of faith in regards to anything dealing with that unit. That said, I like the direction it appears they're attempting to go. I'm just leary of their ability to pull it off.

I think some of that goofing around, though I would agree with @Montucky that it's probably overblown, would stop once the guy we're not supposed to be talking about commands the huddle.

Coverage has been terrible. We get next to nothing from the best guys.

Jenkins goofing around in practice is normal behaviour. Most guys don’t walk around practice trying to murder people.

And that's disappointing, because unless they are deciding to hold the stories until training camp, there's usually one or two special interest stories on the UDFA especially.

The pro coaches won't see it as their job. They don't play those games. If guys don't want to work out or take it seriously pro coaches are more than happy to let them wash out of the league, its an entirely different attitude. Chris Simms talked about this on the podcast he and Adam Lefkoe used to be on in great detail. You can tell how some guys get a little less toned and little more flabby without college coaches helicoptering them year-round.

That said I would not be alarmed. If anything being goofy means he's at least staying loose. The biggest worry I have is that guys stop putting the work in once they no longer are told to constantly like they were in college, or because they start getting paid and think they've "made it".

I think he is the type that is goofy gentle hearted but turns into a bit of a psycho once the whistle is blown

I helped that he was totally outclassing the defenders he was playing against. He's very strong with pretty quick feet, and then packages that in a pro frame. Guys he was facing didn't stand a chance. The pros will be a bit of a wake-up call, but they're a wake-up call for every rookie.

I can just about guarantee his pro play will be vastly less entertaining than his college highlights. Odds are he won't be driving people ten yards out of bounds.
