So it turns out the Fire are playing a match at Soldier Field the Saturday night before the Bears home opener at noon on Sunday.

Is this typical? Seems like an oversight.

So?

What are you afraid is going to happen?

Soccer players rolling on the ground, crying, is going to leave an indentation on the field or maybe the salt of their crocodile tears is going to kill some of the grass?

This is exactly why the Bear are doing the right thing in giving the city a Bronx cheer. Pray it don't rain.

Just saw msadows post. Hope that's correct and makes mine moot.

Its the Chicago Park District - they've held full blown concerts the night before a game on Soldier Field.

The Arlington move can't come soon enough. Hopefully they finalize the purchase by the end of the year.

as bad as the field is in Chicago, I don't recall it causing catastrophic, career ending injuries. Does anyone have an example of this ? The most gruesome injury to a Chicago Bear in recent memory is Miller, and that happened in New Orleans.

LoL

More like the week before a game because the Bears do indeed have a stipulation in their lease that Solider Field stays empty for at least five days before a home game, making the OP moot.

Jeepers

The Bears got like 99 problems but CPD ain't one.

Do you really think that a new stadium in Arlington is going to come with extra wide seating??? They will literally pack as many people as they can just like most any stadium. Bottom line, you're still going to have to purchase two tickets.

You can say that all you want - but that doesn't change the fact that the Bears are moving to Arlington Heights, and the Park District's inability to keep up with the field after events is a major reason (one of quite a few).

What @Penny Traitor said is a fact, and the fact is, it proved your statement to be a falsehood. None of the other stuff you bring up is relevant to that dispute. You lost, Own your L

Meh.

I thought it was more about Solider Field being kinda lame and really small surrounded by a bunch a land they never have a prayer of expanding on and now that the Mastermind McCaskey behind the stadium renovation disaster is deceased...it's time to burn that ugly looking bridge.

If the team truly believed the field conditions were a problem, the Park District has always had alternatives to natural sod ready to be turned down literally every year.

Seriously

This has been discussed for years, every year. The bears can get whatever turf surface they want, whenever they want.

It's really just as silly as Darnell Mooney NOT being considered a WR1.

Hell, the Bears just could have bought a stadium long ago.

So much stuff Bear Nation want to blame the McCaskeys for and one of the few things you can truly blame them for...you want to throw that shade at the Park District???

I mean are you ****ing kidding me?!?!?

The Bears are moving so they can build a stadium that will allow them to host a SB, have a Sportsbook, and increase the franchise value for an eventual sale.

Torn ACL's don't matter when your city is drowning in debt.

This isn't an oversight, the NFL, Bears ownership, and the City of Chicago don't really care about anything besides $$.
Or soccer doesn’t tear up a field unevenly between the hashes like football or compress the grass like a concert.

The converts do far more damage than a soccer game.

If you really buy into the mccaskey's being the ones to turn those things down.

There's been reports over the last 5 years or so where supposedly it's the park district turning down those things but claiming the Bears are the ones saying they don't want it, because they're playing the usual Chicago politics.

Don't also pretend that the field conditions, the cut of revenue the city gets, as well as not having to deal with Chicago politics didn't also factor heavily in all this

Also, since this conversation comes up like every 6 months, the Bears dictate what the Park district does, and the Bears insist on not installing field turf.

As for opposing players, Soldier Field is properly rated as either the worst or the second worst field to play on aside Pittsburgh (I could be wrong but maybe Pittsburgh did something about it).
Grass is better than turf for injuries. The Park District just didn’t know how to maintain the quality of the grass.
