  1. BREAKING NEWS: Roquan Smith Wants OUT!

Doesn’t seem like Smith understands how negotiations work. He’s not a FA until after this season so the Bears really don’t have to do anything because he is already under contract. All the risk right now is with the Bears considering that Smith doesn’t play a premium position, there is a new D...
  2. Put your Roquan money where your mouth is.

Should have looked to move him at the draft and been proactive about it.
  3. Our third biggest cap hit this year….

People are missing the big picture here. The teams with solid OLs have a system in place that takes years to build up. You don’t build an OL through FA. In fact, paying big money to OL might be one of the worst ROI in the NFL. The only way to build an OL is through the draft and not paying big...
  4. Our third biggest cap hit this year….

This isn’t a new phenomenon. Regime change means previous regime flubbed up and with that will come all kinds of legacy costs. Poles does have the right approach in that you want to “kitchen sink” as many legacy costs so you have a clean slate sooner rather than later.
  5. Who could the Cubs trade before the upcoming deadline?

They can say whatever they want but they flubbed up big time. They knew they were going to be sellers months ago and still didn’t move their best trade asset in Willy. You aren’t required to trade just on TDL day. Happ is a different story because his value is likely higher next year to a...
  6. Who could the Cubs trade before the upcoming deadline?

Givens should be moved, but I think he’s probably a fall back option for most clubs.
  7. Who could the Cubs trade before the upcoming deadline?

No reason to move Happ unless your socks are getting blown off.
  8. Who could the Cubs trade before the upcoming deadline?

Brown seems like a late bloomer. Already had TJ surgery so lost a lot of development time right after being drafted.
  9. Who could the Cubs trade before the upcoming deadline?

With Padres having nothing left to trade, seems like the best play is to find separate deals for Contreras, Robertson, and potentially Happ instead of packaging them together.
  10. Who could the Cubs trade before the upcoming deadline?

Padres also got Josh Bell in deal.
  11. Who could the Cubs trade before the upcoming deadline?

The fact Padres went out and got Hader when they already had a closer with one less save makes it seem like they had very little confidence in Rodgers.
  12. Who could the Cubs trade before the upcoming deadline?

Brewers nation gonna storm the bastille? Hader to San Diego when they are in a pennant race? They will move Williams to closer most likely as a result. Obviously Brew Crew know they won’t pay Hader after next year.
  13. Who could the Cubs trade before the upcoming deadline?

Seems like Hayden also projects well as a bullpen arm if starting doesn’t pan out.
  14. Who could the Cubs trade before the upcoming deadline?

Weird trade of Effross to Yankees. Seemed to be a guy you could keep in the pen with so many years of club control still on the books.
  15. Who could the Cubs trade before the upcoming deadline?

What got old was watching the team trot out the previous underachieving core post-2016. Previous regimes would have kept most if not all of the previous core leading to being stuck in mediocrity. The fact they pulled the plug and are taking a completely different direction is refreshing. The...
  16. Who could the Cubs trade before the upcoming deadline?

Seems like a guy that could step in for Happ or Wisdom if they are dealt. He’s got nothing to prove at AAA and just needs more consistent playing time in the MLB to see what he actually has to offer.
  17. Who could the Cubs trade before the upcoming deadline?

Surprised Jed hasn’t pulled the trigger on any deal yet.
  18. Who could the Cubs trade before the upcoming deadline?

Soto is so good that his team is at the bottom of the standings. That’s why you don’t trade for him when the result won’t be any different. Just look at the Angels. The two best players in the league and no hardware.
  19. Steelers fans already want Trubisky’s head

Mitch will be Chase Daniel 2.0. Cashing checks for the next decade and doing nothing. It’s actually a sweet deal.
  20. Willson Contreras says good bye

Even if Willy wanted to come back, I would say no. Cubs need to get younger and keep their payroll flexibility. Last thing they need is another Heyward situation. He was only 26 when the Cubs signed him and in 7 years he has posted a 700 OPS. Brutal.
