BOURBONNAIS -- As expected, the Bears made a roster move Wednesday morning when they signed linebacker Kelvin Smith to the 80-man roster.

He takes the place of wide receiver Antonio Robinson, an undrafted free agent from Nicholls State, who was waived/injured with a shin injury.
Smith joined the Bears' during training camp in May on a tryout basis. He has made stops previously with the Carolina Panthers, New York Giants and Miami Dolphins.

Smith, 26, appeared in three games late in the season for the Panthers last year. He was promoted from the practice squad to the 53-man roster after Thomas Davis was lost for the year with a torn ACL in early November.

A seventh-round pick by the Dolphins out of Syracuse in 2007, Smith played in four games for them that year. He was waived/injured after sustaining a knee injury in the 2008 preseason with Miami.

Smith is the nephew of former Tennessee Titans standout linebacker Keith Bulluck. His godfather is former Philadelphia Eagles linebacker Seth Joyner.

Camp body, and JJ where are you going to find a starting caliber O-Line man in August? Even during roster cutdowns, teams aren't dumb enough to cut a starter or someone w/ the talent to start.
