The Bears are rebuilding their offense with a new playbook and a revamped coaching staff, so one would think that would lead to a significant overhaul of the roster on that side of the ball.

That's not necessarily the case as the team sits a little less than two weeks away from the start of training camp. The Bears have added 28 new players to the roster since the end of last season, including the selection of BYU running back Harvey Unga in the seventh round of the supplemental draft Thursday, and it's almost evenly divided with 15 new faces for the offense and 13 for the defense.

Bears' camp preview: New faces on defense

It's not surprising that the Bears used two of their five draft picks on players in the secondary. Nor is it a surprise that nearly half (6) of the new faces (13) on defense heading to training camp are in the secondary.

The Bears know it was a trouble spot last year and a question mark this year and they've tried to address it with some young and veteran players. If nothing else, they are throwing numbers at the positions -- cornerback and safety. Let's take a look at the 13 players added on defense since the end of the season:

Not really. Tillman and Bowman may not be shutdown corners, but both are fine Cover 2 corners. Corey Graham is fully recovered from his ankle injury that he suffered in college and he's the favorite for the nickelback job. Major Wright may not be starting yet, but he probably will come Week 1 and Chris Harris is a solid SS who's excellent on ST. Plus, a good pass rush can make a good secondary look great and a bad one look average.
