Former Broncos OL Elijah Wilkinson is wrapping up visit with Bears per source. It appears a deal is imminent. #9sports

So camp body or depth? Looks to be a swing tackle/ backup guard

This is right from the article linked by Mceownr22:

"Wilkinson is never going to develop and he will always be a liability if he is needed to start at tackle."

Sounds like he'll fit right in then.

He is better than a warm body. Maybe a chance to start in a new place will light a fire. Or maybe he is just depth and covers our bases in case the draft shakes out in a way that RT isn't the best choice at the pick. Either way, signing him today means we're better off than we were yesterday.

Not really a glowing endorsement. 60% of the Bronco fans preferred if they don't resign him, but then again the article says he's essentially a guard at best and the optimal position would be a backup based on his versatility (can play 4 roles in a pinch).

Cheap veteran depth signing. They will sign several more of these guys at various positions. (every team will) And the same people will cunt over each and every one of them,

its also what Pace does literally EVERY year

he tries to fill all the holes in FA with cheap(ish) journeyman types to give room for BPA in the draft

happens every year and every year people flip out about him signing mediocre FAs

Ryan Pace is not signing two backup tackles to free agent contracts. What this signing really means is that the Bears have settled on their starters at tackle, it will be Charles Leno Jr. and Germain Ifedi with Elijah Wilkerson as a backup. Bears once again enter the season with arguably the worst pair of starting offensive tackles in the league. Andy Dalton is going to last maybe four weeks.

Every team does it. They can't all be big name signings.

sure, but pace goes even further. at least further than what used to be normal for the bears.

dude rarely goes into the draft totally desperate for a position. that used to be par here.
