$45 million to hit Cap floor. Per NBC Chicago

"As Spielberger mentions in the Twitter thread, extensions and in-season spending count toward hitting this figure. Plus, the Bears don't need to meet that number before the season. They have until the end of the 2023 league year to reach the floor. "

Would extending a player, or two, help get them there?

Yes, and, because they can spend that money up to March 2024, it should be extremely easy to do.
Interesting.... The Bears currently have $41 million, in cap space, right now. So they would have to spend all of that, plus another $4 mill?!?

Also, this is not taking into account the post NFL draft cuts/June 1st cuts, that will probably happen.

Cap space is not the same as cash spent.

They’re at 38.4 now on OTC.

Before the 2024 league year begins though, doesn't include next year's free agency.

Cap management in the NFL is all about accounting, not spending. That’s the case for meeting the cap floor as well as staying under the cap ceiling. People expecting additional long-term free agent signings are going to be disappointed. In case you haven’t noticed, Poles has moved on to the rent-a-vet-for-a-year stage of free agency…

Btw if they don't reach the floor, isn't the penalty like paying out the difference to the players or something. Not sure they are overly concerned about it, if that money is going to the players regardless
