Does this mean we are making a move?
Does it mean we are married to his contract another year?

“Voidable contract years are basically fake contract seasons that are simply used for salary cap manipulation,” according to OTC. “… The purpose of the void year is to allow a team to pay a player a signing bonus and prorate for more years than actually exists on the contract. Basically it’s buying on credit with the cap — buy now and pay later.’’

I'll ask, what does four void years mean?
Someone can probably explain better than I, but my understanding is that what happens with the signing bonuses is that they get spread out over the life of the contract, so a $10 million bonus on a 5 year contract will contribute to $2 million against the cap each year.

Jimmy Grahams contract was for this year only, so by creating void years, it spreads the bonus. Those years will then be void after this year, and the remainder of the bonus (paid in 2020) will count against next year's cap. It's a way to push cap impact (not cash payments) into future years.

9 of 27 players the Bears have under contract for 2023 are ghost players on void year contracts. Pace is the guy that had 8 credit cards in college maxed out and was using his 9th to buy everyone in the bar a round.

Basically the bears bears are spreading the cap hit out over 4 years while Graham gets his money up front.

Save now to pay later. The bears have too many of these deals on their future cap imo. Colts, I believe, don't have a single one. I think the saints, bucs, and chiefs have several as well if you want to be more optimistic about it

I would think they must be doing this to sign someone or extend someone right?

Please don't create more years with Quinn. Graham's money isn't that bad but I'm sure everyone here would prefer he didn't do this
