Isn't there automatically an injury out? Historically that's the only way that happens with him.
If he sucks so bad to be cut after 1 game after a career of being a starter I'd pin the problem on the Bears for sure.

If he flames out then he only gets 3.5 mil. Pretty sure he only costs 3.5 mil against the cap anyway with the way the deal is structured. He won't earn the full value without earning it through incentives etc

with $10 million likely to be earned

that is the number that counts towards the cap this year. If he did not earn that 10 million, then the money not earned would return to the Bears cap in 2023.

*oops, you addressed it later, my bad.

Considering that the Bengals are in win-now mode, letting their starting left tackle leave in free agency makes me think he's a weak link or at the very least the Bengals wanted an upgrade from Reiff.
Reiff was the Bengals starting RT last year.

lol at all the argument and discussion about RR's cap hit. Literally the one problem the Bears don't have is salary cap issues (considering next year's room) yet posters are counting beans about it.
This was my thought too. Posters complain when Poles doesn’t spend the money for OL help only to complain when Poles finally spends money for OL help.

Maybe they wanted to get younger? Their entire O line was pretty bad last year, so getting rid of Reiff doesn’t mean he was their weak spot. Plus none of that matters because he is an upgrade to the Bears.

Another way to think of this is...

Reiff and Shofeield or Daniels? Short term or long term?

Obviously when you have Fields at this stage, and an empty cubbard at tackle...you have to make the move for Reiff.
No guartantee that works out but Poles gave us a chance for it to work out when he let Daniels walk instead of panic. Guards are just too easy to replace and you can see they already made the decision on Montgomery with the draft and probably trade him this year.

At least we have a GM trying to think long term values for once and not trying to panic push all the chips in every spring.

Daniels being a 2nd round center who wasn't even a valid backup center made him not worth it on that alone. If he played like a 2nd round guard and had the ability to be center or especially if he played like a 2nd round center. If I had any panic about him going it was now we need someone who can be the minimum he should've been.
At least one of these two additions should hit that low bar.

I agree and being a run specialist to boot with Burrow dropping back 50 times.

He’s a better fit with Fields than Burrow. Both teams trying to get better.

Hopefully Reiff still has gas left in the tank, it seemed like he was often playing through injuries when he was with the Vikings...but that was the Vikings too.

They could have got better in fa for slightly more but the gm fell asleep at the wheel

Hopefully this puts to bed the dumb ass idea 3 7th round rookies going to start on the oline. They are lucky to make it as back ups

I remember wanting this dude years ago when he was a free agent coming off the Lions. But having to sign a guy at 33 years old to a one year contract being potentially worth up to 12.5 mil sends a message of what the staff thinks about the current personnels development/health. Either way, I'm happy to have the insurance and it would be a shame to waste a year of Justin's development by having him run for his life again...
Meh. 33 now, is not the same as 33 was 10-15 years ago. An ankle injury lined him last season. If it were back problems, I’d be more concerned.
