Who knows how it will all turn out, but this is why it's probably not usually a good idea to represent yourself.

Agents are used to teams downplaying their clients' needs and what they deserve financially. It's all part of the game. The player's side wants their max financial value, and the team side wants a player's max on-the-field value for the least amount of money possible. After some back-and-forth, there's a deal, usually one neither side feels great about. That's fine. That's how it *should* work.

When a player represents himself, though, it can become about emotion instead, and a player can feel personally slighted by a team in a way that an agent would understand is just business.

We don't know for certain if that applies in this instance. But you could definitely see it being a possibility leading to a stalemate.

It's also a situation other teams are not going to be keen to invite on themselves. There's a decent chance nobody wants to give up a worthwhile draft pick for Roquan Smith and he's stuck having made this trade demand only to be stuck on the Bears.

Man people are willing to say and do anything to avoid looking stupid for backing Poles since he took over.

Face it. Poles is in over his head. When’s the last time anything good has happened with the bears since Poles took over and cleaned house?

This is embarrassing

My favorite teams
  1. New York Mets
  1. Houston Rockets
  1. Chicago Bears
  1. Oklahoma Sooners
I wonder if some of this is due to Roquan not having an agent?

Whatever it is, it sucks. No idea what they could actually get in trade for him at this point.
He is not being traded. It is all about him not having an agent. Negotiations go back and forth. He has no idea how to handle these offers that are presented his way.

The Bears won't trade him. Just bargaining by Smith but it does make the Bears look bad.
It really does not make the Bears look bad. It’s a business negotiation. Smith doesn’t have an agent and he’s trying to get sympathy by taking his thoughts public via social media. The early word is he wanted to smash the top of the LB market. Is he worth that? Without an agent, he’s hearing directly any issues the Bears may have about his play or future value. I’m sure that’s not easy. That’s why you hire an agent to work the best deal without any emotion.

There's almost no chance he's traded because he won't have enough trade value to make it worthwhile. He might be stuck sitting out a few weeks.

This! The Ryan Poles Stans who pound their chest on twitter are breathtakingly stupid. At times it honestly feels like we have one of the dumbest fan bases in the NFL.

Also Roquan Smith has basically zero actual leverage here. He wants to walk away from his fifth year option money? Doubt it. And if he comes out and plays like shit and just broods and malcontents on the sideline it'll halve his value on the free agent marketplace next year.

He’s a George yes man. Doesn’t even have the balls to tell ownership to fuck off to hire his own hc. He let that Special person George and his pegger Teddy make the hc hire

Regardless of who you believe is right or wrong, Bears probably arent going to get a return for Roquan worthy of his level of play. Not sure too many teams want to spend a bunch of a draft capital for the chance to pay a top 5 off ball LB top 1 money. Maybe ATL. Bears do have more leverage because of the threat of franchise tag though.

Atlanta won't want him.
