If you actually read the article, it doesn't sound like that at all.
Plus his team won 8 of 9 after a 1-7 start. That doesn't happen if players don't want to play for a coach.

DJ and Bucky were speculating about this on their podcast Monday. Rumor is he’s a hard coach to work for, goes to hard in the Patriot Way, and isn’t well liked by players or coaches.
Had to be a reason they fired a coach who finished the season 8-1. Due diligence warranted here.
