Totally agree. He is simply unable to play press man, or is so uncomfortable doing so that he just refuses to. Both point to his limits and, eventually so too to this result.

Tillman made career playing off man. He used the bail technique and was exceptional at it. He wasn't simply a zone corner as people assume. Press man isn't the end all be all.

So, so did Trubisky. Going to the pro bowl means nothing. Look at the stats, he had half the interceptions, half the pass defended, he allowed more than 20% more pass completions, he allowed 2 more yards per target, 5 TD’s and 102 pass rating against him. Like I said in 2019, he was living off what he did in 2018, that’s why he went to the pro bowl.

A scheme si not the basic formation(3-4, 4-3, 46, etc.) which even changes in game sometimes, the scheme is the basic formation, plus coverage, blitzes, stunts, etc. And you design all that based on what kind of players you have. The Scheme is Front, Coverage and pressure packages.

Fangio scheme with the players he had in 2018 created a lot of pressure on the QB, making Fuller and Jackson look a lot better than they were. Just look how fast their stats dropped after he left, even if the Defense overall decline a little slower.
