Not a good time for the city that can’t handle a budget before covid to start giving away money to billionaires to build another stadium. Chicago has way too many problems to deal with and giving away 500 mil to build a stadium is Special person

Maybe. But Soldier Field, the stadium sucks. They can have elements in a much, much nicer stadium. For a city like Chicago and a team like the Bears it is an embarrassment.
What does Soldier Field lack in your opnion? What would make it nicer?

you really can't ...the spot is almost perfect, a walk from the north side is like a lifetime to get there tho. compared to other stadiums i would say it needs to be safer IMO..who cares about capacity and super bowl hosting..let the state built that shit somewhere else...maybe in your backyard..lmao.

Convenient transportation, public or otherwise, getting in and out. It takes a long time to get in and out and generally a lot of walking. When lines at (east side) concession stands are long people have to walk through the lines to get out of their seats. Generally shitty service at concessions. The west side stands are cold, bland, and where often we sat with friends we had to go down two sets of stairs to get to the bathroom; which are dark and dank. Both sides corridors are much too small.

Now, I think a lot of people’s issue is with they took an old, run down stadium and put lipstick on that pig. In hindsight, I think they should have built a stadium. They couldn’t tear down Soldier Field because of its landmark status (I think I remember that correctly) so that in and of itself limited their options. The stadium’s size doesn’t matter to me, I don’t care about hosting Super Bowls; though the city of Chicago would likely disagree. But a larger stadium would equal louder crowd noise. A domed stadium or retractable roof would have been a nice option for the city though I do like playing and watching in the elements.

I think people get sentimental over the stadium being old and historical and it being on the lake. The interior spaces are worse than the (football) stadiums I’ve been in, Indy, Cincinnati and San Francisco. Security also seems to be less there, too, as fights are too common. And it is a God awful place to see a concert for all of the above reasons.

Bears without Soldier Field would be like an angstrom without far fetched nuclei.

Soldier Field is just a shittily remodeled stadium with some nice old colonnades out front. There is no sense of history or mystique about the stadium like Wrigley, Fenway Park, or Yankee stadium. They bastardized a historic venue by plopping an ugly ass spaceship in the middle. They so easily could have removed , built new and incorporated the colonnades into a new version of Soldier Field. To pretend that Soldier Field has any historic value looking like it does is ludicrous. An updated Roman style building with the existing colonnades used as a facade rather than trying to build around them would have been so much smarter.

Surprising fact:

Allegiant Stadium kicked off construction in November 2017 and is set to house 65,000 fans at full capacity. Smaller than I thought.
