Maybe read the words and understand them. What you feel about their spending doesn't align with reality.
How about not defending him. Yes they spent. But on what?

Heyward? Great.

Darvish... Ya tossed away half of that deal.

We can go on but let's face it. The last 5 years would have been a major let down if 2016 did not come to be. Let's not get wrapped up in $$$. Let's talk about how much of it was wasted on Heyward and how he trashed the system for rentals. Underperforming ones at that

Detroit pretty much absorbed a chunk of it. Sox and Yanks got the cream.

It is what it is. He really needs to not get involved. What they are doing right now is working. The system has vastly upgraded after getting a GM who has a clue.

Don't get me into Jed. Getting him out of the GM gig was the best thing ever. He spent more time wrecking then he did building the team

Couldn't develop or draft anything and had to buy buy buy. Got everyone believing teams can not develop pitching in general. How dumb is that.

Now if Crane wants to pep up the team he should talk about how the team is heading in a new direction. They are targeting and developing a sustainable system headed by a revamped pitching system. They targeted their short comings and addressed it and we are now seeing the fruit to bare

If that was his message. Then yes love it. And he is a major player in it.

But the whole we spent line is a cop out and a distraction used by people that have nothing to say.

You made it seem like he doesn't spend. Sounds like you stand corrected and have changed the argument

You are simultaneously saying they spent and taking exception to them saying they spent. The argument is not whether or not they’ve been wildly successful the argument was whether or not it was fair to say they have been cheap. And it has not been fair to say they have been cheap.

Interesting coming from someone who is wrong over 90% of the time.....better to say nothing than to spew a litany of bad takes or wrong information.

It makes sense actually. His injury history kind of suggested it was behind him, and last year he just had arm fatigue.

How did his injury history suggest that?

So why are they winning? Makes little sense to fall out of the top 8.

Because pros typically play to win no matter what.
Not always the smartest move, but it's what pros do. I've watched the Bears win a completely insignificant final game to move down two draft slots...and I've seen them do it more than once. Players really don't care about the future, only what's happening now.

Define win.

Get to .500 and a crap pool
Get in the top 8 and a solid pool and choice.
So, you;re seriously expecting current players to lose, making them less attractive to pay in the future, in order for the team to have an even better chance of drafting players better than they are?

And you're confused why they want to win?

The Cubs have actually been above .500 since the all star break and the second best pitching in the NL. So they are winning because they are healthy, and when healthy they are good. IT would be stupid to have them lose for a few slots, especially since their farm is stacked.

They actually still aren't healthy (Thompson, Miley, and Hendricks). And they definitely aren't good. Losing is absolutely in the organizations best interests, but the players aren't going to throw games.

I guess it depends on what we are calling good, as that is subjective. They have been above .500 since the all star break, on the season they have been bad, but since the all star break I see good as above .500.

They should push Thompson to the pen when he gets back. He has hit a innings wall and there is no good reason to keep pushing him.

What is in the best interest of the team is not winning. It is getting exposure for the next gen. That means getting Kilian and Wesneski in the rotation and pushing Sampson out of it.

The focus should not be winning. Who cares what the players want. It is doing what is needed to make 2023 better.

In that Hendricks is shut down and is working on prepping for 2023. He is not trying to get back. It is pointless to do so

This should be the focus. If they win cool. But if the goal is to win then they should have moved agressivly last month to make it so.

And that's the difference between the team/ownership making decisions versus the players on the field. If the team decides to shut down Hendricks for the season, it is their choice, But if they send him out there, he should be pitching to win. Whomever is on the field should be playing to win.
