He has been struggling at AAA. AA and lower is more inexperienced pitching. AAA has plenty of pitchers that have been around 10+ years. Not about talent. More so spanking a baby
AAA is not considered the big stepping stone. Its AA. He has things to work on just like all players but his start is not indicative of anything.

Depends. Take a team like the Yankee's. They would want Contras pretty bad. Take on Hendricks. That lockss them into Kyle next year for 14M. Cubs eat half of that.

Cubs take back Aaron Hicks for CF. Davis is not a sure thing at all. Hicks gives a legit CF until 2025. About the time frame Alexander-Crow falls into. Also this free's up Happ for trades. Also they get Clarke Schmidt. He is in the pen ATM but would be a solid SP option.

So for the Yanks they get out of a longer term deal. Get a All star catcher and a solid #5 who tends to be healthy and eats innings. That is a big deal in NY.
Hicks for Contreras and Hendricks and the Cubs eat money. Holy shit, what. Hicks is awful. He hasnt had a decent season since 2018 and he is 32. The Cubs wouldnt even entertain that for Smiley alone.

It is more so about Schmidt. He came up as a starter and the #16 pick in his draft. He fits the profile that Jed is looking for going forward. Taking Hicks would make sense for NY as they drop a deal. They get their #1 delema solved in a catcher. Hendricks would be insurance to be honest. He would be battling for a spot but right he makes that rotation pretty tough to beat.

The problem with the yanks is poor farm. Schmidt would be the best guy to target.

I'll disagree.

Each step has it's challenges. But the big difference is AAA is a back up squad for most MLB teams. Which means teams stock pile 2nd and 3rd tier players for injury purposes. This most have been up and down for 10+ years catching gigs.

AA is more so the final weeding of buster talent. They all lack MLB exposure but they survived the cuts.

It is apples to oranges. AA is untested but in general more potential. AAA is more experience but lower ceilings.

That is why success vs AAA means more than AA. Davis train wrecked pitching and now he can't break .200? These pitchers see hot sticks for years and know how to read and exploit. It is up to Davis to learn what they are doing to him and close his holes.
