I’m curious…how did the braves “buy” their championship last year?

Few things here. But to add they were a 88 Win team that got hot after the trades and ran over teams with better records. And for the most part were able to cast off most contract

The starting rotation avg less innings in the play offs than the pen. I did not look into the pen adds late season. But there most likely a few.

Thus this is a team that took advantage of teams tossing away contract and ran with it. They were not a dominant team going into the deadline
07/30/21Cleveland Indians traded LF Eddie Rosario and cash to Atlanta Braves for 3B Pablo Sandoval.

07/15/21Chicago Cubs traded CF Joc Pederson to Atlanta Braves for 1B Bryce Ball.

7/30/21Miami Marlins traded LF Adam Duvall to Atlanta Braves for C Alex Jackson.

07/30/21Kansas City Royals traded RF Jorge Soler to Atlanta Braves for RHP Kasey Kalich.

Also that ring was stupid. Over sized. 44 diamonds in the A. Then a ruby set in the HR location for each Brave HR.

Gaudy waste of cash IMO.

Then that dick of a grandson Chip goes and shows his ring off to Suzuki.

Bet that turd was thinking...you choose the wrong team. This is what a winners ring looks like.

They were a. 500 team. Then they squeek in. Then win it all.

Not sure how else you would call it.

April 27: Alec Mills has a setback
While rehabbing from a lower back strain, Mills experienced right quad tightness on April 26 that will deter him from pitching in his upcoming assignment with Triple-A Iowa, which was scheduled for later this week. He's going to rest a few days, and it's speculated that when he resumes his rehab, his first move may be throwing a bullpen session before making a full-blown start.
Mills' most recent outing came on April 23. In that three-inning start, the right-hander threw 62 pitches, struck out five, issued no walks and was charged with three runs.
The Cubs placed Mills on the IL to start the season after the lower back issue flared late in Spring Training. He is in Chicago's plans as an option for the rotation or bullpen this season. Manager David Ross reiterated on April 26 that Mills is being stretched out in the Minors to potentially be a starter. -- Ethan Sands

LHP Wade Miley (left elbow inflammation)
Expected return:
TBD
Miley completed a live batting practice session on April 27, throwing 46 pitches with three pauses to simulate inning breaks. The team plans to reevaluate Miley on April 28.

Not sure how on earth you equate that to they “bought” their WS

Opening day payroll for Braves in 2021: 131,400,310 End of year: 148,497,447 Addition of 17,097,137 in season.

Alex Jackson 580K for Adam Duvall. Miami pays 1,301,055 Braves paid 3M flat.

Soler: Royals paid 8,050,000. They trade him for Kasey Kalich (Making minor league cash) The Royals ended up paying 5,236,828. Braves paid 2,813,172 for a rental.

So 'Buying' is just that. They paid for a championship via trades. 17M is a huge investment for a late season push. So much that the team post deadline was not the same animal going in.

I'm not saying wrong or right. All I'm saying is they bought it via the deadline. That team pre had no business there.

Team record pre deadline: 51-52
Final record: 88-73

36-21 record with the new players. That continues into the post season.

So because a contending team adds at the trade deadline, your take is that they “bought” their WS?! So literally 90+% of teams “buy” their WS title.

By your standard, the 2016 Cubs “bought” their WS too. This might be your worst take yet

I dont think he knows what buying a championship is. It's usually reserved for teams with outrageous payrolls and not much homegrown talent.

No. The point was a simple one. They were a .500 team and paid 17M and ended up with 88 wins. that led into a championship.

If you guys have your own definitions of buying that is fine. It is subjective. But don't push your views are right or wrong.

If they were a 200M team and went on to win it all I most likely would not have made that comment. Because that was a team geared to win. Is that buying a ring? Sure. Yet again the term buying is subjective and relates to many things. If they paid off the Umps to make calls geared towards them? Is that buying a ring? Yes. Yet again another subjective use of the word.

So Maybe I need to be more direct to you guys from now on.

2016 is an interesting take though. They traded for Chapman.

Spotrac has him at 11,325,000. NY paid 5,136,455 Cubs paid 6,188,545

So the Cubs paid over 1/2 of his services for 1/3 of the season control. It is not the same monetary investment as the Braves pulled.

2016 Cubs opening day payroll: 171,611,834 Ending payroll. 181,914,941 Add of 10M most of it in Chapman. But my subjective view is that this is a team built to win out of the gate and the term buying dose not apply to my context. But using the term buying in past context sure as it is a subjective term.

2021 Braves opening day payroll 131,400,310 Not really a contenders payroll. ended up with a 148,497,447. To me that is buying a championship. Yet again subjective use of the term. This year they opened up with a 178,055,000 payroll. A 'contenders' opening.

Shoot very subjective.

Oh well I was going to do a spread on team O as the Cubs are sitting on # 4 ATM. I thought is was a interesting bit.
