Too bad, we didn't have any expensive washed-up running back to flip to them.

Wow. Cards are acting like they're ready to compete NOW. Great move for them.

Houston traded DeAndre Hopkins to the Cardinals. Watson’s idiot coach traded away his best weapon and yet he’ll still have a way better season than Trubisky will with a great supporting staff.

First thought is opening up some money for a Watson extension. But the cap hit difference over the next two seasons is only like 5Mill or so between Johnson and Hopkins....you wouldn't think that would be enough given the obvious talent discrepancy.

Strange damn trade.

Looks like David Johnson is going to Houston, so it's sort of a player for player type deal where some picks will smooth things out.

Makes a bunch of sense:
  • Cards desperately needed WRs - Kingsbury's college system had a lot of 4 WR packages. Last year they had to replace WRs with TEs because they were so weak there. Also, remember their best WR in Larry Fitzgerald, will eventually retire leaving them with really nothing.
  • The Cards all but announced that they were moving on from David Johnson when they traded for Drake then used him over Johnson when Johnson was healthy. Only way for the Cards to move on from that contract was to trade him.
  • For Houston they get a RB that can expand their offense and let's not forget the do have Fuller, Stills and Coutee. With getting ready to pay Watson franchise QB money they will have to save money at other positions and there's a lot of talent at WR on that team.

A Texans beat guy on NFL radio said Hopkins was making a fuss because he wants a new deal with 3 years left on his current contract so they said goodbye. Still an awful trade..
