The Chicago Bears have requested permission to speak with Cowboys senior defensive assistant George Edwards regarding their defensive coordinator opening, according to a source. Because it is for a coordinator's job, the Cowboys cannot block the request, but the organization wants to keep Edwards, who spoke with Mike McCarthy about the Cowboys' coordinator job before it went to Dan Quinn. Edwards was Minnesota's defensive coordinator from 2014-19.

Up and coming 34 year old inside linebacker coach of the New England Patriots who was recently interview by Philadelphia for their head coaching vacancy.

DAN QUINN

Former defensive coordinator of the Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks. Ryan Pace was rumored to have interest in him for the head coaching vacancy in 2015.

KRIS RICHARD

Former defensive backs coach for the Super Bowl champion Seahawks and then succeeded Quinn as defensive coordinator. Took a year off after the Cowboys regime was fired in 2019.

Not too long ago James Bettcher was one of those dark horse head coaching candidates. You'd have to imagine he still harbors those kinds of ambitions. Personally, I think he's by far the strongest candidate but the Bears hire him knowing he's already got his eye on the door.
