NFL Exec Believes Matt Eberflus Sabotaged Bears' Draft Approach

There are plenty of theories as to why the Bears didn't go offense earlier in the draft. One exec pointed the finger at Matt Eberflus.

Eberflus didn't sabotage anything. This is expected when you hire a defensive minded coach. They have pride in establishing their side of the ball and they stick with what they know.

At the end of the day Poles makes the final decision. And going defense doesn't mean the draft was sabotaged. We got the two best players on the board.

People might complain this year. But when you consider the amount of cap space we have next season and the draft capital we have in tact, there was no reason to reach. We will get some nice pieces next offseason. Just gotta build with what talent we have now.

I have a difficult time believing that this guy would get paid millions of dollars to do his dream job and the first thing he does is intentionally sabotage that.
That's like getting hired as a writer by Sports Mockery and the first article you write is about how bad it is to work there.

A new defensive-minded coach ends up getting two defensive players for his new scheme at positions that didn't even have NFL caliber starters - shocking ??

I doubt he intentionally sabotaged the draft--that would be sabotaging his own job.

I just think he addressed the defense because that's what he's comfortable with and that'll probably be this team's calling card. You can agree or disagree with prioritizing the defense, I personally disagree, but there's no way Eberflus "sabotaged" the draft.

Interestingly enough, several offensive players came off the board shortly after each of the Bears picks, so maybe the problem was with the Bears board?

As much as Fields needs help around him, we literally lost games last season due to our crappy secondary.
If the goal is to win games, drafting potential starters in the secondary was just as important as receivers and O-linemen.

The exec was none other than the highly decorated GM of 19 FFL teams and commissioner in exile, @dabears70. da70 went on to say thatif he was NFL commissioner he would have rejected the pick as unfair in his infinite wisdom.

Thankfully we will only have to wait 3 months to be filled in on every draft pick in DB's FFLs shortly before the NFL season.
