Eddie Jackson is going to show up this year like a MONSTER.

I'm predicting 6 interceptions, a touchdown, a pro bowl nod, and a new sandwich named after him.

Epic Deli in McHenry names a lot of Sandwiches after sports players.

Harrison Smith isn't even the best safety in his division. Half that list laughable.

No squawking from the folks who try and mock “the national media hates the bears” posters today.

it’s real.

Hicks wasnt on their top IDL list and Mack is 9 on their top edge rushers list.

Well Jackson only had 2 picks last year, both on hail mary's. He had a down season from 2018 which warranted his huge cap hit contract extension.

He also played in the slot a fifth of the time, and had a passer rating against of 57.6. That ranks 5th for safeties, and higher than most other probowl/allpro safeties last year. He played in the slot more in 2019 than he did 17/18 combined.

He didn't have a "down year", the opportunities to cause turnovers just weren't there. If this team got pressure on the qb like they did in 2018 the entire teams turnover count would obviously go up.

As far as being a good coverage and tackling safety he had prob the best year of his career thus far. Missed the least amount of tackles, and was great in coverage.

When are you nerds gonna realize that the bears as a team have been a ****ing joke for over a decade, and this joke resides in a major market city?

Of course the media makes fun of the bears. They get maximum value out of that.

Ain't nobody in Cincinnati or Jacksonville or New Jersey or whatevs gives a **** about the bears maybe having some sort of hope of being a winning team.

Gosh.

You guys do know that Trubisky is still on the team, right? Some of you even believe he is the starting quarterback this season. Some of you even believe that the NFL is going to have a full season.

Lmfao gosh

This article reads, "It’s no secret that Jackson saw a dip in production last season. But that was due more to the Bears moving him to strong safety, where he wasn’t able to roam centerfield and make the kind of game-changing plays that had become expected after his first two seasons."

I certainly never heard "Pagano moved him SS". Rather I thought I heard it indicated they both (Dix/Jackson) played Safety without specific roles of FS/SS. This article reveals Jackson played more of a FS 51% of the time. Article makes it sound like he was moved to SS, not that he received more Box reps.

Per Pro Football Focus, here are Jackson’s snap percentages as an in-the-box safety vs. as a free safety in his career:

201720182019
Box26%17%29%
FS62%72%51%

Sure, Jackson is better used in the FS role. But being an offense can steer away from Jackson, it's good for the team if Jackson learns how to play in the box too. Still, we hope Jackson plays the FS role a lot more this year.

That's kind of the point of a true "free" safety: there is no "steering away" from them (especially with his range). How do you steer away from a guy that covers the deep center all the way to out past the hashes? Throw all your deep balls towards the sideline? That's what the CBs are there for.

The entire reason Jackson is a badass is he doesn't limit passing options to a deep half (as Ss in a cover-2 would), or a deep 3rd (a lesser traditional FS playing one of the zones in a cover-3 or 1-deep man); no, he covers 2/3 of the deep zones (whether it be a sideline to the opposite hash, or a few yards outside of each hash if dropping into the middle initially).

Sure, moving him down on occasion to mix it up (put him in man, or sub coverage for a blitzing LB, whatever...) is fine, but why avoid putting him where he plays best just to make him "learn to play in the box?"

Pagano did not utilize Jackson correctly last year. Most of that was on Pace as he failed to sign a downhill box safety and instead signed a safety that played the exact same position. Gipson plays just like HaHa, so it'll be interesting to see how Pagano adjusts

I think not having Hicks messed everything up. He allows safeties to play super deep
