Every new coach does the "just do your job" and accountability and discipline bullshit....gotta wait for the season to see how true it is.

Don't pay safeties big money. Don't care who they are or how great they appear to be. It is just not worth it. The variability between a 15m a year S and a 5m a year safety is simply not significant enough to warrant paying them. They also are one of the easiest positions to find in the draft.

Draft them, play them for 4-5 years and then trade or let them walk and collect the draft/comp picks as you replace them with draft picks or cheap FAs.

Who knows, a new scheme could spark a revival. If the Bears go with a cover 2, he'll play more centerfielder and covering 1/2 of the field. He's obviously not a box safety or a guy who is a great tackler, but when he's on he has one of the best ranges at S in the league. If Flus teaches swarming to the ball and gang tackling, it may cover up some of EJax'sliabilities. There's plenty of tape to show his liability as a tackler, but there's also alot of tape to show much much ground he can cover as well.

Fair nuff. I will be more than pleasantly surprised if things turn out like that.

Eddie Jackson wasn’t used properly under Desean (whateve his name his)), I think he was moved to strong safety if not mistaken but he plays better a free safety so he roam the secondary and make plays etc….

This is incorrect. He played more nickel this year which was good for him but the big issue IMO is Amos was a steadying influence and allowed Jacksom to freelance and take chances.

If Jackson has a good, even a career season trade him next year. If he has another crappy or average season cut him next year.

If the easy scores due to massive coverage breakdowns resume then bench him this year. Make an example.

Only his cap hit has kept him a Bear since he decided to mail it in after getting paid. Let him have a clean slate somewhere else and good riddance.

Who knows, I do know he has the talent, hope it's a scheme thing but suspect a lot of it is mental, as he's shown in the early part of his career he can be a difference maker. Something clicked or unclicked in his brain. If you're a golfer you know what the "yips" are and that it's a real situation that hopefully can be overcome or he will be gone, done.

Well, we recently signed a guy who may be that steady influence at SS again..

They don't have enough picks or resources to give him serious competition, or serious competition to everyone on the team who really needs it.

So, that's in part also why not give him a chance? Nothing to lose this year, and they can't replace him anyway.

With the shortage of players, anyone they can find who can hack it from this roster is a bonus anyway.

If they had absolutely zero faith, he'd be gone.

Best example I can give of that is Alex Bars and Lacivious "Pig" Simmons.

Anyone watching last year knows that in limited time for both, Bars far and away outplayed Simmons. However, Poles let Bars walk, but re-signed Simmons. There's only one reason for that - they knew what they had in Bars, and he was never going to be better than what he was. But Simmons has some traits Poles likes, and from his college tape has the aggressiveness Poles likes. So he has that and potential, which is why he gets another chance.

This season is going to be about seeing who, under extreme pressure, can rise to the occasion, and who falls off or can't keep up.
They literally can't cut Jackson because they have zero depth to have someone take his role wherewithas the o-linemens in your example which you didn't even watch play are easily replaced because they were literally backups, ignoramus.

I'm going to ask for the 5th time now, what's the deal with all teams changing random players numbers to quarterback numbers?

the combination of the Pagano scheme and turning him into #4 is my explanation for why his play fell off.

Teams aren’t making the changes. The NFL opened up the number system last year and a lot of players chose to change their numbers as a result.

Jackson changed his number last year. So post Pagano but I do feel like everyone’s play dropped once Pagano took over. Jackson, Mack, Quinn, Trevathan, Goldman, Fuller etc… all took a step back under his scheme.

Eber can say that all he wants, but the fact he even HAD to say it is proof alone that he's aware Eddie was pussyfooting and taking it easy before.

Surely Eber is aware that many players took plays off after the team gave up on Nagy's bullshit. He's faced with a difficult situation of not losing the locker room before he starts, while also demanding more of them. The roster can't all be replaced in 1 offseason.

They're stuck with Eddie's bloated contract and underperformance & need to get him playing tons better whether he stays or builds trade value. No way he's gonna risk pissing of Eddie on day 1. He'll be facing a challenge.

Well he had to say it because someone asked him about Jackson. Thisnisnt that hard. Everyone gets a clean slate. Some guys contracts are not worth it relatice to their production. Both things can be true.

I meant that he can't really call him out publicly right out of the gate this early. As much as we'd all respect him for it, he'd risk losing a cohesive front before he even starts. Let's hope he talks to the loafers like Eddie man to man first to figure out where each is really at and help them turn it around vs. flying in the locker room going all John Taffer on them. ? If they still loaf - then riot act in film session. Then they sit & they gone.
