First things first - neither are someone I would want leading a modern NFL search. HOWEVER...

Let's stop pretending Bill Polian is Ernie Accorsi just because he wanted Jackson to convert to WR.

Lets actually look at the 2.

Ernie Accorsi

GM
  • Baltimore Colts - 1982 to 1983.
    • Record - 7-17-1
  • Cleveland Browns - 1985 to 1992
    • Record - 65 -61-1 (Failed with Bill Belichick)
  • New York Giants - 1998 to 2006
    • Record - 73 - 71
  • Total Record: 145 - 149 - 2. One Superbowl Appearances Total in 24 years. Zero Accolades.

Bill Polian

GM

  • Buffalo Bills - 1986 to 1992.
    • Record - 69 - 42 (3 Superbowl Appearances)
  • Carolina Panthers - 1995-1997.
    • Record - 26 - 22 (One NFC Championship Appearance)
  • Indianapolis Colts - 1998 to 2009
    • Record - 131 - 61 (2 Superbowl Appearances, 1 win)
  • Total Record: 226 - 125. One Superbowl Win, Five Superbowl Appearances. 6x NFL Executive of the Year. Member of Buffalo Bills Wall of Fame and Indianapolis Colts Ring of Honor.

So.....

Someone want to tell me how the FUCK Bill Polian is the same guy as Ernie Accorsi?

You once again missed the point. Maybe if it was smothered in nacho cheese and cheeto dust, you would have paid a little more attention.

There is a simple explanation to that. They had a FaceOff procedure. So technically they are the same.

I wanted an in house president but I have to admit Polian is a good choice to lead the search if not. His son is still a college coach. 2 aspects of coaching he's finds very important is that the HC should be a great teacher and garner respect.

Not the way I want the Bear organized as is but Polian has as good a shot as anyone outside to get it right. I'm still concerned about how long he's been out of the NFL loop.

100% of the teams Bill Polian has been management of have been successful. He took an expansion team to the NFCCG in their second year of existence FFS. He's the best football mind not named Bill Belichek

I am definitely concerned about how long he's been away. So much so to the point where I would disagree that he has "as good a shot as anyone outside to get it right".

But I also don't believe his son being a college coach is much to be excited about either.

Thanks, you're correct they are not even close to being the same guy, George could do a lot worse than Polian. I even think his son or grand son Duke with the Bengals should be looked at when you consider what he's done there with no budget or resources.

Polian obviously has a more impressive resume... but what has he done in the last ten years?

Not only that, but Bill Polian was heavily involved in all football operations with those teams. It seems like he's just going to help pick the GM/Coach for us. That isn't really the same level of involvement.

Polian > Accorsi. Fingers crossed, though.

Unless his son is the third greatest mind in football right now and is going to come to the Bears and be the OC of the greatest offense ever seen in any sport.

They are both old cis-caucs males and literally everyone knows that age is the great equalizer so betweenst the two it really doesn't matter they are not the sort of football minds that could revolutionize the bears into a modern progressive team of the future so who cares and also isn't there like a bunch of threads about these old men stealing literally millions in consulting fees just to make some ignoramus hiring advize? Why does the stalking alt psychopath need to make a thread about everything that people already have made threads for?

He's enjoyed retirement after being one of the most successful executives in the NFL over the last twentysomething years.

And he technically won in 3 different eras of football - so, he obviously knows how to adjust to the times....
