I dont think the authors take on what went wrong with Fields in Nagy's offense or his evaluation of the Bears offseason cap situation is accurate. But he's right in that Fields doesn't have a strong supporting cast around him. I dont believe that necessarily means the FO is recklessly abondoning him though, for all we know they realize the talent around him is bad and (unless he's outlier bottom of the league bad) effectively have decided this year more or less doesnt count in evaluating him. I dont necessarily agree with that approach, but its a logical consistent one if they are are working under the beliefs that A. Fields is your guy regardless over the next 2-3 seasons, and B. the WRs available to Bears this year was overpriced and/or underperforming compared to peers.

Huh? Me and Bearmick were two of the first guys to bail on Trubisky. I kept saying his overthrows were going to be a problem.

The WHOLE REASON I'm known to be a "negative" poster is because I constantly trashed Mitch. That's where the reputation started.

From PIB

Yes. Ask him why he is lying and tell him to KEEP MY FRIEND @bearmick NAME OUT HIS FUCKING MOUTH. Thanks

No youre just a loser who literally comes on here trying to bait people into treating you like shit.

Anytime was as negative as anyone on mitch. You don't see him going around now making posts just so he can jerk off to people all universally shitting on him.
You're a QB fanboi that cannot take any criticism of bears QBs. You did the same with Mitch. Probably the same with Cutler too...but I didn't post here then.

So Football Outsiders says Mooney is a #2 in one article, and then a borderline #3 on a good team in another article.

Sounds like they seem confused.

That was ESPN Insiders but yes, the writers there tend to contradict each other

@BaBaBlacksheep tell Rainbow I just bumped a thread with one of the worst takes in CCS History and he made it. Ask him is this why he is too cowardly to make predictions?

There is always an excuse why the Bears bypass offensive skill positions-and for many years, the O line. I would expect that next year there will be an awesome DE or free safety who is the BPA and must be drafted. The result of this thinking has been a consistently bottom dwelling passing offense for decades
So will Fields once again be short changed?

I think ESPN was just looking for clicks on the latter article

Yep.

I expect Justin to play much better than last year. He's still got Monty to catch out of the backfield and Kmet in his 3rd season. Many ppl on this board always say TE is one of the hardest positions to adjust to from college to the pros. If Kmet is going to be anything special we'll see it this year. Especially since we don't have a bona-fide wr1.

But yeah, if Fields struggles, get ready for every excuse in the book.

I think people need to stop suggesting that Kmet has to be "special" to be useful. He will never be a Travis Kelce, Zach Ertz, or Tony Gonzalez. Most TE will never be that.

However, Kmet, can be a solid TE that helps the offense and be worthy of a 2nd contract. Where he and entire offense need to improve is scoring TD's once they get around and into the red zone. Kmet actually had decent numbers last year, he's a willing blocker, but he needs to get open and catch some TDs in the red zone to be really effective.

Darnell Mooney, who ranked 63rd in DYAR last season, though a putrid offense and revolving-door quarterback situation clearly nerfed his metrics. Mooney would be a fine WR2 on a real offense..

@Bear_Assed thoughts?
I had to look up what the hell "DYAR" is. It appears to be a BS statistic invented by FBO that they only use when they can skew it to their narrative.

No. He was drafted in the 2nd round. Therefore he has to be HOF or bust.

This was a good offseason for Matt Eberflus, who got his head coaching break for a franchise that loves defense as much as he does and got two plug & play secondary players in thr draft this defense desperately needed.

This was a good offseason for Ryan Poles, who was able to negotiate some small "what can you do for me" contracts while unloading some crippling veteran contracts. He also got a lot of value in a backloaded draft and traded back with ease.

This was a dogshit offseason for Justin Fields, but I am sure he can hand the ball off to his backfield just fine while the Bears regress to their "safe space" of playing football like it is still 1940 something.

But come on....are you really that surprised, Bear Nation???
Not surprised at all, but I should have seen it coming a lot earlier than I did. Like most here I was hoping for OL/WR help with a least one of the second round picks. Not going to lie I wanted Poles to take Watson. I did not see all defensive picks coming in the draft till mid- March, and I should have.

Should have seen it when Poles hired Eberflus, and his first move was a 3T plus looking at the 4-2-5 Eberflus wants to run the majority of the time. Bears just did not have enough defensive players on the roster to run that scheme.

From day one the Bears chose defensive over offense.............again. Like it or not Justin Fields has to make do this year and wait for help in 2023. I think he can, but that is just my opinion.

I think even some of the most fervant homers have '23 as the "put up or shut up" year for Poles in building the team, but I dont see the point in judging the '23 offseason in mid May of '22 based on hypothetical moves you've come up with in your head.

I’m giving Poles the benefit of the doubt for this one season.
This is a perfectly reasonable position to take. But people need to understand that there’s a very real **possibility** that Poles has no fucking clue what he’s doing. And if that turns out to be the case, we’ll all look back at this offseason and say this is where the questionable decisions began.

To point out those things now and not wait 2-3 years doesn’t make one a “hater” or an “idiot”.

Or when the realization hits that every WR is Josh Bellamy........drops every pass but hey, they can block in the run game and play special teams!!

The point is that's the history of the Chicago Bears for many, many years. Will Poles prioritize the ofense in2023?
We shall see.
