I'm not convinced that giving up Gleyber was necessary. I suspect we could have given up Eloy and gotten Chapman. Or some other pieces. Theo fucked up by giving away Gleyber.

Gleyber was the top prospect at the time. That's what the Yankess wanted.

Yankees were giving up Chapman regardless. I suspect Cubs offering Eloy would still have been the best offer on the table.

Maybe, maybe not. Eloy was their 9th best prospect at the time per BA.

Yeah we will probably never know. But I think giving up your #1 prospect for a half season rental of a closer is too steep of a price to pay. There are times where you just have to say no.

I think its more without the Gleybar/Chapman trade the Cubs don't win 1 world series, they are going for a three peat.

This take is microwaved vomit. Name the Cubs reliever who would've gotten the final 8 outs in Game 5 of the World Series.
