Also signed more OL help in Tyrone Wheatley Jr
He’s a prime example of why college players should not be chastised by the media, alumni or the NFL for skipping bowl games. His injury in the Orange Bowl basically ruined his NFL career.

Is he any good?
Looking back at scouting reports, he was a good prospect, but hasnt been healthy enough in years to be able to produce in the NFL. I'm not sure how much he has left after the injuries. He was a good athlete but never a freak. He wasn't a very good blocker.

IF he can stay healthy and IF he hasn't lost much athleticism, then he could be a good fit and a good backup. Don't be surprised if he doesn't make the roster if he's lost anything.

Strengths:
Good receiving tight end
Weapon down the middle seam
Too quick and athletic for most linebackers and safeties
Sideline skills; good toe-tapping
Soft, natural hands
High points the football
Quickness as a route-runner
Has blocking ability
Improved blocking as a senior
Hands catcher
Route-running
Red-zone threat
Mismatch weapon
Makes acrobatic, difficult catches
Unafraid across the middle
Run-after-the-catch skills
Finds the soft spots in zone
Three-down tight end potential
Upside
Ready to play once healthy

Weaknesses:
Not a forceful blocker
Can never be a Y (blocking) tight end
Good, but not great, athlete
Good, but not great, speed
Torn ACL in bowl game will impact rookie season

Thanks. Sounds like they might envision him as a backup for Graham.

He was supposed to be coming out of Michigan but just can't stay healthy. Denver finally gave up on waiting for him and drafted N.Fant so they probably didn't give him as much of a chance after drafting Fant as they would of if Fant hadn't played so well, so maybe we'll get lucky and the kid can stay healthy and show of his talent for us.

His pre -2 ACL tear ( 3rd total) 4 0 was 4.74, so doubt he is faster than an in his prime 4.56 JG even at his advanced age of 34.

The Bears do not have great depth at TE.

Having a #3/4 TE that has some upside is an interesting add.

I wish I remember which podcast it was that basically said let's bring in a TE that does one thing well. Well, I agree with them. If this guy can't block well, but can catch very well and be a glorified big slot, go for it.

A very low risk high reward signing.

I'm not sure what Jake Butt is at this point. He definitely doesn't have the athletic ability he had before that bowl game where he first hurt his ACL. He was never a big blocker, but maybe he has improved there. He's not a viable U TE option IMO. And if he can't block better than he could in college, he's not a good option at Y either. Then again, JP Holtz sucks too so he only has to be better than that.

He was a 5th rounder in 2017. He never played his rookie year due to an injury (ACL?). If memory serves me correct he was drafted hurt, so his stock dropped. Since drafting Butt the Broncos drafted TEs Troy Fumagalli (5th in 2018), Noah Fant (1st in 2019) and Albert Okwuegbunam (4th in 2020).

He also has 10 catches for 90 yards (no TDs) in his 4 seasons/dressed in 8 games.

My thoughts: Interesting prospect, but can't stay healthy. He's really shown nothing on the field and the team that spent a 5th rounder on him opted to add competition/move on in each year with the team. I'm unsure if he can add anything except training camp reps.
