Quick note....u do know Winston had Lasik eye surgery prior to joining the Saints. And the Saints run a different offense than Tampa
I think Winston had something to do with his own improvement too. Getting cut motivates some people, and I think he was bound to be the comeback player of the year if he had stayed healthy. Hard to believe he was playing with poor eye sight, and it took getting cut for him to do something about it....

But to your comment that they run a different offense...That is the point of the whole discussion about if Leftwich would make a good head coach. If Leftwich was a good OC (top5) his QB would not be throwing 30 picks, in the same way Carmichael coached and schemed Winston to be better with the ball.

I thought you were suggesting that the offense improved from 2018 to 2019, and you somehow credited that to Leftwich's involvement instead of the obvious injection of talent.

I'll ask a question for you. Does Leftwich have the easiest job of the 32 OC jobs in the NFL? I mean the system is in place, he has a HOF QB with 21 years of experience and not showing any signs that he is physically and mentality slowing down, the guy probably has more knowledge of the offense and what the opposing defense is doing then Leftwich himself. Then if Leftwich has any problems or needs to make an adjustment has has Bruce Arians who has been developing this playbook since 2007 to advise him.

What injection of talent? How did the roster improve from 2018 and 2019? Give me specific names of the players acquired that made the difference in 2019.

The main difference between 2018 and 2019 is that Chris Godwin went from a nice No 2 WR to a potential No 1.

But did he scheme him to be better with the ball or did the eye surgery and Winston himself lead to the improvememt.

I am not an athlete at the highest level of sports, but I got Lasik and it was worth every dime.

I guess his hesitation was that, there was a possibility that it would not work. After he got cut from Tampa, it made it worth the risk.

I would imagine he had to re-evaluate his approach to the game. Can you imagine throwing for 5109 (16 games) and still being let go....

Winston use to squint. That's not good for a Qb. It effects depth perception on deep passing.

Ok you're leaving out the 33 Tds and 5000+ which is 6th all-time. Again 1.Winston was seeing better and 2. the Saints
offense was never based on deep low % passes. It's more WCO based. The Tampa offense was more akin to Air Coryell or Al Davis Raiders offense.

Can you imagine having a year like that and then being let go….maybe he was not listening to Leftwich and that was the reason he was the scapegoat.
Leftwich get both credit and blame equally, for the amazing results AND the unacceptable amount of turnovers……

You simply can not ignore the amount of turnovers, and Lefty was the OC, so he gets blame……

If Winston’s “squinting” was a problem and he couldn’t see as well down field, then why didn’t Leftwich adjust his scheme to help his QB. Another red flag for me. I don’t care how many TDs or yards a QB throws for if they are still throwing 30 INTs. That’s definitely concerning and you have to question the OC.

Hey Dr. Shit Eating Proctologist, Winston's severe, nearsightedness is well documented. All one has to do is
put " Jameis Winston nearsightedness and Lasik" in ones browser.

Over time Tampa did ratchet down on the "No risk it, no biscuit" type offense. They've moved from the Air Coryell or Al Davis Raiders offense.
